gaza. >> with the israeli prime minister juggling the politics of the war, israel defense minister held a special meeting overnight to discuss the return of hostages from gaza. shannon: trey yingst the priority of things live in israel, trey thank you for joining me now house of foreign affairs chair texas congressman michael mccaul. welcome back. >> thank you for having me. shannon: let me get your reaction to that speech. lumping him in with hamas what you make of that you heard what admiral kirby had to say. biden and beebe have differences but they can talk to each other. >> you talk about top lane government in a democracy. i was with the ambassador from israel at our retreat when this news came in it was very inappropriate. i think it was embarrassing. there is a way to talk about your differences, not to topple a government and a democratic

country. and i think it is indicative of now the split in the democratic party between the base, which is not the traditional israeli alliance anymore and i think what you are seeing is a pro- palestinian anti- israel affection and the democratic party they protested schumer outside his home every morning and perhaps that's what he is responding this way. but it is not a good sign. israel has always been bipartisan. shannon: your democratic colleagues, many raising questions about whether aid or weapons should be stopped. there should be conditions what flows into israel. the president talked about the redline in regards to rafah but would like we do have a lot of sway over israel so how much she would be using to make sure there is a concrete plan to protect civilians? >> the aid is more complicated because the un refugee, they were actually involved in the invasion of israel. so how can we have them deliver

aid in gaza? there is no trust there. israel is getting private contractors to move the eight in. we have the world food program catholic relief services many ngos that can deliver the aid if given the right security. i think we need to look at that model moving forward. shannon: should we be continuing to warn israel they could beat limits on what we send or give if they proceed with this rafah invasion? >> my understanding is not going to be an invasion it's a continuation of targeting high-value targets in rafah they have taken out half the leadership of hamas. once they take out the top leadership including this guy who is threatened to bomb jerusalem during ramadan that is when you'll see a turning point i do not see anything wrong with doing high value targets not a full-fledged tanks rolling in two rafah. shannon: a soccer ball the funding in the supplemental sum for israel, ukraine, taiwan,

other priorities we heard admiral kirby saying they want the full package but there are other things being floated possible standalone measures possible loans or lend lease for the things potentially coming out of the house the white house has signaled it doesn't have an interest in so what can the house passed the president would actually sign? >> a speaker indicated he's committed to getting this done. i have been working with the appropriate authorizer's and appropriators there are things we can do to make this bill better. for instance the repo act i passed that in my committee, allows us to attach to the russian sovereign assets that have been frozen to help pay for brushes war crimes i think most americans agree to that concept. also the loan program to provide for the direct government assistance to ukraine. it's no interest, or waivable wt it is symbolic it is a loan program finally strategy and we've got to put these in the

long-range artillery to hit the bridge between a russian crimea. shannon: you think there's a chance this comes there is a package there is still a chance what the senate has put into the house a court could come back out as a package or you think is going to be potentially broken up into other measures? >> we are moving through our normal appropriations process. it should be done by this friday. after which the speakers indicated he is committing to putting the supplemental on the floor. we should attach around the sanctions that would be ukraine and endo pacific. >> you think we get this all done by friday if not its government shutdown time and there is real concern especially about the departmental and security portion of this and whether that gets passed. you think the the ogaden by fri? >> i am hopeful. i do think we will. the homeland piece a little dicey. last resort may be cr we could continue home and on that basis. however we will get that done

and we will look to the supplemental. shannon: i want to talk to about haiti we are watching this violent terrible situation deadly there and folding. democrats are pointing the finger at republicans over some of this for the democratic leader hakeem jeffries over in the house wrote a letter to the speaker this week and hate name checked you with a letter and says that the situation on the ground in haiti has rapidly deteriorated while house republicans have refused to deliver the resources necessary to carry out this mission. now is a time to release the full $50 million in security support. a republicans responsible for is happening in haiti? >> know the administration failed policies have led to what is happening in haiti with no governance whatsoever the prime minister is in puerto rico. even kenya will not put their peacekeeping forces because it is so chaotic. now, what they are asking me too do is release $50 million of cash and weapons to go into haiti with no governance.

♪ ♪ shannon: chaos and violence has overrun haiti bringing the country to its knees. haitians and americans racing to escape the unrest have very few options. it was, in fact p a mission led by two members of congress that the successfully airlifted a group of volunteers from the island including best selling author mitch albom who joins us now to share his story. mitch, welcome. it's great to have you with us. i learned in interviewing you

last year that you operate an orphanage a there. here is what the white house -- excuse me, the administration, the state department has said about americans being this in haiti. >> for years we have been telling americans, do not go to haiti. do not travel there. it's not safe to do so. and for those who are there, leave as soon as you can feasibly do so without putting yourself with at risk. shannon: why has it been so porn for you to be there? >> because it's the easy the say don't go there because with it's dangerous, but what about the children who live there, the children who live there? if i've operated an orphanage for 14 years, and i can't stop going just because of danger. it's more dangerous to the children and the people there. shannon: what is the situation like on the ground will there? if. >> it's almost indescribable, shannon. every night there's gunfire. our kids sing their prayers with gunfire in the background. you hear about police stations being burned, banks being

looted, bodies being left out in the middle of the street. there's no government to speak of. the gangs basically control everything. our kids haven't been outside of our orphanage doors in three years because it's too dangerous to go out in the streets. it's just not a way to live, and and i've been advocating for us to get a little more involved and try to stem this violence in haiti. shannon: so you do go back and forth on a regular basis, but this last time trickier trying to get out with airports shut down, normal transit areas completely closed off. we have heard -- we may have some footage of this, that you were part of the group that was rescued in part by congressman cory mills who has done this in a number of places to get americans out. can you tell us anything about your journey out? >> i didn't know corey mills before he started following me thanks to -- [inaudible] to get you out. it wasn't so much my wife and myself because we go there the every month if k and we're used to this danger, but we had eight

guests with us, some of whom had never been to haiti before, one of whom had never been out of the country before or, and we had no idea when we could get out again -- the airport -- [audio difficulty] cory mills organized this trip. it was a middle of the night thing, you know? we came running out of the place where we were really held. 67 seconds we were thrown into a helicopter and up and and out. but while we're happy that we were able to get out, we were heart broken when we flew over haiti air space and i realized our kids are still there. and so are, by the way, hundreds if not thousands of americans, decade a januaries, volunteer workers who can't get out right now and still are trying to. i want to point out tease are not people who went to haiti to go have have a vacation, you know? they're there to help children, they're there to do water projects or bring food or education or hospitals. they're doing good work, and if they need to get out now, i hope there'll be efforts to bring
