israel deepens as israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu cancels plans to send a delegation to washington, d.c. after issuing an ultimatum to the u.s. we'll get to that in just a moment. but, we begin with decisions and a pair of former president donald trump's legal cases. the presumptive presidential nominee scoring a major reprieve in his civil fraud today. the former president failed to get a delay in manhattan district attorney's alvin bragg's criminal trial. now set to be the first and possibly only to go to trial before the november election. correspondent c.b. cotton is following it all from outside the new york state supreme court. good evening, cb. >> good evening, bret. the first criminal trial of a former u.s. president is set to go forward with jury selection beginning april 15th. but donald trump's legal team is filing another motion to have the case delayed, again, this

time because of pre-trial publicity. the defense team has argued before that any media attention previously media attention may have tainted any jury pool. in the hush money case prosecutors allege trump attempted to cover up payments to adult 234reu78 star stormy daniels and therefore voters never had the chance to fully assess trump's candidacy for president. the case was set to start today but trump's legal team argued thousands of documents from a previous investigation into trump's former attorney michael cohen had been wrongfully withheld. today trump's lawyers told the judge the d.a. had tried to bury the material. the d.a.'s office said only a handful of the new records were relevant. the judge ultimately decided the d.a.'s office was not responsible for the late disclosure. trump today repeating his claim that the case is election interference. >> i don't know how you can have a trial like this in the middle of an election, a presidential election. and this is, again, this is a biden trial. >> but the former president

scored a legal victory in a separate case. today, after he risked the state coming after his bank accounts and real estate assets, the new york state appellate division said trump has 10 days to get $175 million bond to secure the civil fraud judgment. trump posted on truth social comparing holy week in the christian faith to his risk for asset seizure in the civil fraud judgment. and president biden's campaign trying to capitalize on that and trump's day in court writing in part, quote: donald trump is weak and desperate both as a man and candidate as president. he spent the weekend golfing, the morning comparing himself to jesus and the afternoon lying about money he definitely doesn't have, end quote. today the former president said he would pay for that appeal bond in cash. bret? >> bret: c.b., thank you. more on this with the panel. israel will no longer be sending a delegation of high ranking officials to d.c. after the biden administration decided not to veto a united nations

resolution calling for a cease-fire in gaza. it's the latest in an escalating feud between the u.s. and one of its closest allies. senior national correspondent rich edson is at the white house tonight on the north lawn with the latest. good evening, rich. >> rich: good evening, bret. the biden administration could have blocked that resolution at the united nations security council. it did stop three previous versions. this time it didn't. drawing swift criticism from israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu and leaving the administration explaining its israel policy. >> abstention. >> the biden administration allowed the united nations security council to pass a resolution call for an immediate cease-fire in gaza through the final two weeks of ramadan. >> the final text does not have key language that we think is essential, such as condemning hamas. we couldn't support it. though, because it does fairly reflect our view that a cease-fire and release of

hostages come together, we abstained. >> as a result israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu canceled a high level israeli delegation to washington and called the u.s. abstention a clear departure from previous position that quote hurts both the war effort and effort to release the hostages. it gives hamas hope the international pressure will allow them to accept a cease-fire without the release of our hostages. the white house response? >> is he wrong? >> yes. >> kirby called the u.s. abstention very consistent with the administration's policies and accused netanyahu of trying to create a perception of differences between the u.s. and israel. in gaza the civilian death toll and significant humanitarian needs have led administration officials to openly criticize israel. the president had requested the now canceled meeting with top israeli officials to discuss alternative to israel's planned offensive into the gaza city of rafah where the u.n. says more than a million palestinians have fled. this weekend, vice president kamala harris stressed an invasion of rafah would be a huge mistake. >> are you ruling out that there

would be consequences from the united states? >> i am ruling out nothing. >> republicans say the administration is losing its moral clarity. >> that abstain vote is shameful. we don't go neutral when it comes to israel. it's ridiculous and if i were netanyahu, i would pull back his delegation. >> there are reports out of israel that the israeli government has agreed to release several hundred palestinian prisoners in exchange for 40 hostages. the administration says negotiations are still ongoing and northbound delegation head to doha to try to reach a final agreement. bret? >> bret: rich edson live on the north lawn. thank you. four men accused of staging the russia concert hall attack that killed more than 130 people appeared before a moscow court showing signs of severe beatings. as they faced formal terrorism charges. even though u.s. and french intelligence insist isis-k is responsible for that attack,

russia is still blaming ukraine. here is senior foreign affairs correspondent greg palkot. >> the shock of friday night's terror attack at a concert hall in moscow continues to reverberate. at least 139 people now believed killed by gunmen and a fire, 182 injured. the isis-k offshoot of the islamic terror group claimed responsibility the u.s. confirmed that today. >> we said isis bears sole responsibility for this attack. we -- i would just say that with respect to isis at large, and even isis-k, specifically, we are very vigilant in monitoring this group's activities. >> russian security was slow on the scene and not quick on the take. it did make arrests though, including four suspects from central asia in court and visibly roughed up. tonight russian president putin acknowledged the islamic link still hinting ukraine could benefit. >> we know by whose hands this atrocity was committed against russia and its people.

we are interested in who is the customer. >> russia continues to pound ukraine. missile debris injuring 9 in ukraine today as its leader claimed it had nothing to do with the terror. >> it's obvious that both putin and other scums tried to shift responsibility on someone else. >> for some though the attacks are a broader warning to the u.s. and other countries of the ongoing danger posed by isis, the group responsible for the suicide bombing in 2022 in kabul. deadly attacks on locations a few years earlier in europe. >> the resources it takes to conduct an operation like this is not terribly sophisticated. we are talking about ammunition and guns and some modest amount of money to do this. >> putin added the attack may just be one of a series of attempts by kyiv to sow confusion in russian society. the kremlin's spin machine in full throttle, terrorism ramping up as well. bret? >> bret: greg, thank you. ♪ >> bret: also breaking tonight,

back here in this country, the los angeles and miami homes of rapper and producer sean diddy colmes were raided by federal officials today in connection with a sex trafficking investigation. >> good evening, bret. this is all part of a major investigation being conducted by homeland security. the operation today involved federal agents raiding homes linked to sean diddy combs in los angeles and miami. here in l.a., heavily armed agents raided combs' mansion and seen escorting several people from the property before investigators moved. in while in miami, some agents arrived at comes waterfront property by obamacare. we are told this is a sex trafficking investigation. although homeland security investigation officials will only say quote earlier today homeland security investigations

hsi new york executed law enforcement actions as part of an ongoing investigation with assistance from hsi los angeles, hsi miami, and our local law enforcement partners we will provide further information as it becomes available last year three women in two separate lawsuits accused colmes combs. reached a settlement in the second filed in november. two women alleged acts of sexual assault and forced drugging of women by coms during the 1990s. a mail music producer filed a lawsuit accusing abuse unsolicited groping and sexual touching. a lawyer for combs described that lawsuit as quote pure fiction. tonight it is not clear where sean combs.

>> bret: independent presidential candidate robert f. kennedy jr. is expected to announce his pick for vice president tomorrow. reports indicate the likeliest candidate is lawyer and mega donor nicole shanahan. she is also the ex-wife of google's founder sergei brim.

the announcement of a running mate means kennedy will meet a necessary benchmark required by two dozen states to be listed on the ballot. with control of the u.s. senate definitely in play this november, new polling indicates voters in deep blue maryland heavily favor republican larry hogan over potential democratic rivals. but a path to victory may not be so easy. correspondent mark meredith explains from washington. atlantic. open revolt at nbc as morning joe joins the ronna mcdaniel pile-on. with that, let's bring in our fox news chief political analyst brit hume. brit, good evening. quite the kerfuffle there at nbc. >> brit: yeah, a real melteddown. and you got all these nbc news personalities spun up over the hiring of ronna mcdaniel. meanwhile, of course, the ranks of political centers to cable networks is stuffed with people formally employed by or political campaigns. even presidents. jen psaki of msnbc not only on the payroll but has her own show. i don't know that joe scarborough and mika brzezinski of the morning joe show were upset when that happened. apparently not or we would have heard about it former press

secretaries all over the place. george stephanopoulos very prominent figure on abc news. was press secretary for a time bill clinton and one of his closest aides. these people are on the other side of the political fence from ronna mcdaniel who is after all a republican. i think that has a lot to do with it yes, of course, she no doubt had some criticism to make of network news when she was in the role party chairman for the republicans. but, this seems to me to be an example of the hermetically sealed bubble in which these people on the left live because they simply can't see it from the other side. they don't -- it doesn't strike them at all strange that in a world in an atmosphere populated with political formers of various jobs with campaigns and politicians, that you know, that it's silly to be all spun up

defend donald trump. now, look, i have -- i have no brief for donald trump but i believe that a well-rounded opinion side, whether it be newspapers or broadcast ought to have various voices. and ronna mcdaniel, after all right now is not even in favor with donald trump. but she might be well able to provide some insights into what trump's thinking is and what his people think and what it's like to be a party chairperson when donald trump is in charge. so, i think there is a potential for her to be a valuable contributor except, of course, obviously that she comes from the wrong party and as a conservative holds the wrong political views to get a fair hearing among nbc staffers who seem determined to flaunt their own biases. >> bret: brit, as always. thank you. you are on your own. that is the message from mexico's president regarding

countries, indicating the biden administration is on its own here. this, in turn, ties the fbi's hands as they can't legally investigate unless mexican authorities are also cooperating, bret. >> bret: and, gillian, breaking tonight there is a new security alert for american citizens in france? what do we know about that? >> well, issued just a short time ago, bret, the u.s. ambassador in paris tonight issued this warning, it's a security alert for all americans in the capital as well as across the country, it comes on the heels of the march 22nd isis attack in moscow and what they are saying is that american citizens who are in the country right now need to be extra cautious when they go to places where there are public gatherings. they specifically mentioned public transport hubs like airports, houses of worship, schools, stadiums and concert venues. bret? >> bret: okay. gillian turner live at the state department, thank you.

>> bret: also breaking tonight, major league baseball superstar shshohei ohtani addressed the media for the first time today since allegations surfaced long-time translator stealing millions of dollars from the los angeles dodgers to cover gambling debts. scandal scrutiny to professional sports closeness with gambling. national correspondent william la jeunesse has the latest with the breanna breaking news out of los angeles. good evening, william. >> good evening, bret. just minutes ago the highest paid player in baseball just told us his close friend and interpreter of six years is a liar and a scammer who stole millions from ohtani's bank account and that he never knowingly sent money to a bookie. >> i never bet on baseball or any other sports or never have asked somebody to do that on my behalf. and i have never went through a book maker to bet on sports. >> so this ohtani's first public

comments since the dodgers fired for illegal gambling. the dodgers did not allow any questions today. the back story is important for context. last week he told the media that he gambled on sports through an illegal bookie and that ohtani was paying off at least $4 million of his debts through multiple wire transfers from ohtani's bank account. now, initially and this is what fed appeared to be the biggest gambling scandal in baseball since pete rose. ohtani spokesman said it was true. a day later however, he recanted everything and said ohtani knew nothing about the transfers and ohtani's attorney said his client was the victim of theft. >> just to kind of just go over the result in conclusion, he has been stealing money from my account and has told lies. and, obviously, i did not -- never agreed to pay off the debt

or, you know, make payments to the bookmaker. >> this isn't over the irs and u.s. trorn investigating the bookie and interpreter for sports betting illegal in california and the league prohibits players from dealing with illegal bookies whether they personally bet or not. if these statements are true and prove accurate it seems ohtani is out of the woods. the interpreter is in serious trouble of illegal gambling and theft. some reports say it wasn't 4 but up to $7 million. bret? >> bret: okay, william. thank you. up next, the panel on former president trump's big legal day and the presidential race. first, beyond our borders tonight. north korean officials say japan's prime minister has offered to meet with north korean leader kim jong un. japan acknowledged it has been trying to arrange a summit but dismissed north carolina's preconditions for such a meeting as unacceptable. more than 1 nigerian students and staff who were kidnapped this month arrived at a local

this is a small victory to reduce this amount still a complete miscarriage of justice. >> bret: win on one side getting to post a much smaller bond getting appeal the "wall street journal" writes. this trump can post smaller $157 million bond in civil fraud case. last minute reprieve came on the day that new york attorney general letitia james could start enforcing the judgment. james, a democrat, had brought the case against trump accusing him of falsely valuing parts of his veal empire. on the other case criminal case brought by alvin bragg does start april 15th. a date has been launched for that let's bring in our panel ben domenech editor-at-large for the spectator. host of the ben domenech podcast on fox news radio. byron york, chief political correspondent of "the washington examiner" and axios political reporter stef kight. byron, i'm just going to play this media analysts on a number

of channels reacting to the reduced bond. >> here we go again. he continues to defy gravity and catches another lucky break. >> he has a private plane. he has private clubs. now he is getting his own private system of justice. this san absolute travesty it. would not help for anybody else. >> the playbook is different for former president trump. he is given more time to pay less money. >> bret: it's quite interesting to listen to all the reaction today. byron? >> kind of an alternate universe. really shows you how much they were invested in this going forward and trump being penalized and, perhaps, letitia james, you know, putting a padlock on trump tower today. it was the first injection of common sense i think that we have actually seen in this case. i think we can say that the appeals judges thought that the bond requirement was excessive and speculating here maybe that means they think the whole award was excessive. and maybe that means they think

the case itself was excessive. we don't really know about that. but, faced with kind of a crazy situation they really, really turned down the temperature a lot today. >> bret: the statement, ben,ed from the spokesperson for the attorney general's office this: donald trump is still facing accountability for his staggering fraud. the court has already found that he engaged in years of fraud to falsify, inflate -- falsely inflate his net worth and unjustly enrich himself and his family and organization. $464 million judgment plus interest against donald trump and the other defendants still stands. i want to go back and play letitia james running for attorney general and this is something the former president points to a lot. and how does this all play politically as we get ready for this race? take a listen. >> wai i'm running for attorney general because i will never be afraid to challenge this illegitimate president. >> i look forward to going into

the offers of attorney general every day suing him, defending your rights, and then going home. >> will you sue him for us? >> oh, definitely going to sue him. we're going to be a real pain in the [bleep] >> so, obviously the former president points to those statements. but, as you go forward here, how do you think that plays politically in the general election, not just a republican primary. >> politically i think in the general election, this is something that an absolutely benefits the former president. it allows them to point to someone who is not very quiet about her own views, who doesn't seem like someone who is, you know, pursuing justice because you know, she is seeking to enforce the law as written. you know, someone who called him an illegitimate president, you know, back in 2018. it's not something that i think in any way really hurts him. and it's, once more i think, bret, as i said to you before i think this is a situation where i think that democrats are hurt by the fact that they didn't put all their eggs in one major

basket. obviously you can't prevent the actions of these other officials from pursuing donald trump as he obviously is something that, you know, helps you within a democratic primary to promise that type of thing. but, the truth is that if they had focused on one of these cases, the jack smith case being the obvious one, i think that you would have had a much likelier and stronger position to argue within a general election that you're pursuing him because of your belief in the rule of law and law and order as opposed to just partisan pursuit that he can point to as being something that once again shows that he is being made a victim and a martyr because of his political beliefs. >> bret: stef, on the negative side for the former president, there is now a date. if you look at all of the dates for all the legal wranglings that are coming out. there is a trial date where jury selection begins april 15th for the new york criminal case. and that looks like it may be the only one that gets a trial

and maybe even a completion before the november election. >> yeah, and it's a big deal that there is now at least one case that looks like will go to trial before the november election. everyone will be watching that very closely. and, of course, it's kind of one negative piece of news for the president that who has -- the former president who has continued to delay these other cases against him and, of course, today's judgment on the bond being able to lower that by around $300 million with a huge piece of news for the former president, but this does, you know, this is significant movement forward. >> this is, of course, not the biggest of the cases that trump has been facing. the hush money payments have been viewed kind of as the lesser case of these four that he has been facing in florida and georgia and washington as well as new york. but, you know, it will be interesting to see whether america really does tune. in whether there is any impact by there being an actual trial.

whether we, you know, see anything interesting when trump does, in fact, face the jury in this case. >> bret: i just want to follow up on what we talked about with brit really quickly, byron. chuck todd just posted on x this issue about ronna mcdaniel and the pushback from nbc talent isn't about ideology todd says it's about basic truth. those trying to make this a left-right issue are being intentionally dishonest. this is about whether honest journalists are supposed to lend their credibility to someone who intentionally tried to ruin ours. thoughts on that? >> well, this meltdown brings to mind something actually that brit hume said earlier. he said he didn't think the "new york times" and some of their news organizations had any actual pro-trump voices and i think a number of them have been careful to arrange a diverse array on trump, voices that are opposed from trump from the left and opposed to trump on the right and opposed to trump from

there was no mention in that resolution about hamas or linking the two together. the administration says it's not a change of policy. the israelis say it's another thing. politico writes it this way u.s. allows passage of u.n. resolution. passed a resolution on monday specifically calling for cease-fire in the israel hamas war after the u.s. declined to exercise its veto power. israel responded by canceling a visit this week by israeli officials and top advisers to prime minister benjamin netanyahu to washington adding to the tensions between the two long time allies. back with the panel. stef, there is no sugar coating it. the relationship has gotten tense and intense but this seemed like another level today. >> it certainly is another escalation of the tension we have seen over the past six months to be frank and also especially over the past few weeks. i mean, thinking back to, you know, following the october 7th attack when, you know, u.s. officials were resoundingly

behind israel no matter what. we heard strong support from american leaders and now seeing how, you know, democrats in particular have struggled particular whether i how best to respond to the situation in gaza in particular and, of course, hearing only recently senate majority leader schumer calls for elections in israel and then the u.s. abstaining to vote in this u.n. resolution vote as well has just continued to see things escalate. of course, u.s. officials are trying to down play this and, you know, they see it as israel overreacting to the vote saying this isn't a change in policy but it's very clear that that tension continues to grow. >> bret: yeah, ben, if you read the resolution, it's, you know, does not mention hamas, and israel said let's get the hostages released first. as a condition of any negotiation on cease-fire. anyway, that's what their view is. >> it's no surprise that the united nations is once again engaged in undermining and

attacking israel at this moment, of course, along with any of the others in the past. one of the things that i think we should understand is that the chuck schumer season in stf mentioned really marks a separation from past and historic tension between democratic leadership in washington and bibi netanyahu. bill clinton tried to prevent him from becoming prime minister. back in 2012, obama's own national field director went over to israel to try to prevent him in terms of his own election and now we see this happening. wise diplomats, you know, hug people in public and then behind the scenes voice their complaints. instead i think you saw chuck schumer playing for a domestic audience of progressives who are increasingly a loud voice within the democratic cohort and which this white house is overly, in my opinion, concerned about. >> bret: yeah, quickly, vice president harris said this weekend she is not ruling out and the u.s. is not ruling out any consequences if israel does
