undocumented migrants to commit crimes after arriving in the united states. new poll out from the associated press newark center shows 40% of respondents of illegal immigrants committing a crime is a major risk. immigration authorities say they are working to prevent that have happening. fox news embedded exclusively with a team of ice deportation officers out in massachusetts and track down violent criminals out on the streets thanks to sanctuary policies. correspondent bill melugin has that story out of boston tonight, hi, bill. >> bill: jillian, good evening to you. we have got some breaking news tonight. fox news down 4 alleged child rapists and a

tonight after a dozen appeals for his release had been to "special report" this is a dim dark anniversary of this year. your thoughts on this day. >> i very much hoped i wouldn't be sitting here. in fact, it didn't occur to me i would be sitting here a year later. but sadly, here i am. it's a total outrage that our journalists remains in prison. the charges against him are

totally bogus. he was a reporter. doing his job. he was accredited by the russian foreign ministry, he needs to get out of prison. he the logistics of the dealings with russia? >> well, yes. i mean, the probable we have we are dealing with vladimir putin's russia. and as you can imagine, the channels are extremely limited. now, i'm confident that the u.s. government is doing everything it can to get evan out of prison. but, as i say, they are dealing

with putin. even calling it diplomacy is, i think, insulting because this is hostage-taking pure and simple. >> bret: is there any human interaction with evan? >> so, in terms of the communication that evan has with his family, principally and with his friends and us in the newsroom, it's mainly -- well, it's all via letter, letters we can write to him. the letters get translated they then get passed through the prison center and he can write letters back to us in russian that are censored and translated when they get back to us that don't speak russian. he is visited regularly by his russian lawyers. they are a lifeline for him. and he has had sporadic visits from the u.s. ambassador lynn tracy. and she is able to feedback to evan's parents about his well-being. >> bret: is there any hope? do you see any glimmer of anything changing in recent months? >> putin has a couple of times

mentioned evan publicly. it is always difficult to know what that might mean. but, i think we were all optimistic, i think the fact that he has even acknowledged evan publicly is a sign that perhaps some sort of deal could start to take shape. i think we are all optimistic that some sort of swap, some sort of deal will be put forward in the near future. but, that i hope isn't born as optimism as much as it is interest any knowledge i might have. >> bret: all of us are pulling for his release and it was striking to watch journalists from all over read his articles continuously. >> i'm laura coat. cnn chief analyst. i'm bret baier. it is an honor to read from the colleague evan gershkovich. >> it's an honor to read from the work of our colleague evan gershkovich. >> bret: it was kind of a moment of solidarity. >> absolutely.

a wheelchair, he frequently finds spray paint on his fence in front of his house. his family is now asking why they are responsible for the clean up in a city that is plagued by crime. correspondent matt finn any paints a picture for us tonight. >> it is so absurd like a joke. >> 102-year-old victor silva and his outraged family say there is graffiti all over oakland but the city makes wheelchair bound victor repeatedly paint over graffiti on a wall in its had backyard or face more than $2,000 in citations. victor says he has painted over the urban art for years. now it's getting difficult. >> i will be 103 two months. i have slowed up a bit. >> victor's 70-year-old son helped him paint. they are not convinced the wall will remain white. >> it's hard to keep up with it as soon as we get it painted from is going to be graffiti on it again and it won't last. >> family says oakland should be more concerned about crime. violent crime has surged in the

city with robbery alone up 37% compared to last year. they say the nearby commercial building they owned has been gleen three times the past year. victor's son says he calls 911 but nothings that changed. >> it's hard to understand where our tax dollars are going. they can't answer 911 but they can come out and harass you about a fence? today the city of oakland tells fox news policy is property owners clean up graffiti even if they didn't do it and 102-year-old victor will not be fined this time because he complied. a spokesperson telling fox code enforcement is proud of their work to get out there and make the city more beautiful and clean. and the family says they feel targeted because the city is not using its time or resources to clean up graffiti on nearby street signs or utility box. we asked a city spokesperson about that today, and they just didn't have an immediate response. gillian? >> gillian: puzzling, all right, thanks, matt. ♪ ♪

>> gillian: new jersey democrat senator bob menendez will not delay his may trial on corruption charges. the senator insists he isn't guilty. he is, though, up for re-election this year and a whole lot of senate democrats are reluctant to call for his removal as their delegate majority is hanging in the balance. senior congressional correspondent chad pergram reports on that tonight from capitol hill. >> chad: bob menendez showing staying power. >> there is no evidence of the giving or receiving of cash and gold bars. >> despite a stack of criminal indictments accusing him of doing the building of egypt and qatar, the new jersey democrat hopes to cling to power running as an independent. his trial looms in may. >> all i can ask of you to withhold judgment until justice takes place. >> new jersey democrats are reluctant to wade into the fray.

♪ >> gillian: welcome back a boeing plane today was diverted due to engine issues. a latest in the a string of incidents impacting the company. united airlines flight was heading to san francisco to paris but was forced to land in denver after the crew reported some problems with one of the engines. at least six other incidents have occurred on united flight since february. markets were closed in observance of good friday today for the shortened week. the dow was up almost 1 percentage point. the s&p 500 gained almost to a half. the nasdaq lost. ♪ ♪

>> gillian: it is the only airline hijacking in u.s. history that still remains unsolved. over 50 years ago now a man hijacked a plane demanding money and a parachute. he later jumped from the flight off the plane and was never seen or heard from again. in tonight's whatever happened to senior correspondent eric shawn looks at a new clue investigators now say could help solve the mystery. >> the legend of d.b. cooper, began in the dark skies of thanksgiving eve november 24th, 1971. a 40-something passenger with a briefcase that he claimed contained a bomb hijacked northwest airlines flight 305 from portland to seattle. he demanded $200,000 and a parachute and somewhere over southwest washington state ordered the plane's rear stairs to be opened and he jumped out. forever disappearing into the northwest night. former fbi agent larry carr was in charge of the case. >> this story is filled with so many characters.

these pro-palestinian anti-israel protesters. inside and outside that venue. i think we have over that to show our folks at home what was going on. saying things and chanting things like shame on you and genocide joe has to go over his policy of support towards israel and the war in gaza. this is really for president biden the foreign policy issue that he cannot shake. >> yeah, you are right. i mean, listen, he is raising an impressive amount of money. but, republicans also are used to having contend with this. we are consistently outraised in elections around the country whether it's a senate election, house election, presidential. of course, president trump, former president trump was certainly outraised in 2016. significantly whenever he beat hillary clinton. so, while it's not the only indicator, it is one that the campaign has to be concerned about and i'm sure they have a plan to get his fundraising numbers up. as it relates to president biden, he has a problem with his base and a problem with

independents. it doesn't matter how many moves he takes to step away from our strongest ally and friend in the middle east, the state of israel. even abstaining from the vote in the u.n., gillian, is not going to be enough to appease. have a problem with the far left. going to have a problem with independent, moderate americans because inflation is going up. so when you go to the grocery store, you are seeing the price of milk. you are seeing the price of eggs. you are seeing things to slowly particular back up again. it's very frustrating as a person responsible for buying groceries in my home. can i tell he that is frustrating. you are seeing inflation go up and crime continue to increase around the country. and interestingly, local news, local outlets around the country reporting about the crime coming from illegal migrants. so these are things that are going to be incredibly challenging for president biden going into november. >> gillian: jeff, a sign we are in the thick of a general election campaign, biden took some really personal jabs at

former president trump last night. he called him out of shape. he said he is broke. take a listen. >> all the things he is doing are so old, speaking of old. [laughter] and. [laughter] >> he is trying to contrast and in this is the contrast that is sort of giving it back to trump what i think he feels like he has gotten from him. and is he doing in a big room like that, i was in the room last night with the white house press pool. it was a very energetic, very electric feeling but those protests you were references more with morgan absolutely had an impact. you heard biden make some jokes like that about trump. make some jokes about himself. put his aviator grasses on at the end and say dark brandon lives. it was, i think the democrats will have seen it as good night. certainly the financial strength

that they wanted to show with the 25, 26 million that they brought in is something that they are using to say there's a lot of enthusiasm for him. and they are also using it apro-pro-rhetoric to sort of raz trump. and it seems to be getting under his skin. infrared the trump campaign said president trump plans to have a big fundraiser as well and make even more than that we will see if that happens he is getting personal and feels trump has gotten personal with him. >> the optics of the former president being at the fallen officer's funeral and looking at the stage, jeff, you were there. i don't know if came through watching from a distance. stephen colbert 59 about to certain 60. president obama is 62, i believe. bill clinton is 77. and president biden is 81. going to be 82 next year. and i don't think no matter how much money you can you can't de-age. that's the issue to her aim along with what morgan mentioned the border. i just don't feel good and i

think double the amount of money you can't reduce the age that you are with dollars. >> gillian: interestingly, hugh, you know, historic amount of money they raised also reflects the fact that they closed out last month with more than double the amount, the biden campaign, more than double the amount of money as the trump campaign. they said this last night unlike our opponent, every dollar we are raising reach the voters who will decide this election. that obviously. campaign. use being some of the donation for his legal defense. >> >> i will defer to jeff the real reporter. more began and i are commentators. i don't think this is an election where money is going to matter. i really don't. do you? >> i don't know the answer to that. but i do know the evidence 2016, that certainly is something that the trump campaign on its side. on the other hand, money does help with advertising and it does help deal with some resources if you bolster your
