pro- israel counter protesters all involved. good evening i am jon scott and this is the fox report. ♪ today's and violence that ucla comes a students and educators across the country try to stir up anger about u.s. support for israel. putting on a massive demonstrations at columbia new york city paid george washington university in d.c. and arizona state. christina coleman has the latest of ucla. jon: it appears we are having difficulty getting christina's microphone working.

obviously she's in a difficult situation. will try and restore that and get back to you or get her back on the air as soon a siu can. on the east coast of columbia university in new york promises it will not again call and police to remove protesters. senior correspondent steve harrigan is live at columbia it with more on that change of heart. >> jon, more than 200 protesters arrested overnight for that number continues to rise day by day. most of those arrests at northeastern university in boston. officials there said they only called in the police after chancellor heard of kill the jews. officials there say many of the protesters were professional outside organizers who came on the campus to stir up trouble. meantime mort demonstrations at george washington university as wellin d.c. a statue of washington was vandalized one a 16-year-old prospective students, jewish,

said he was harassed by the protesters while visiting the campus with his family. >> trying to walk down the streets i am being blocked. people standing in front of him 16 years old i've grown men and grown women coming up to me putting their hands on me trying to keep me away. >> you talk to some jewish students at columbia, some say they have begun to hide their identity out of fear for their own security. >> i definitely would not walk on certain areas with the star of david but sometimes i tuck it in and certain holidays i mean like a passover i like to wear but i told that down because it's definitely not the best idea. >> the gate behind me they say they'll officials of the university's they will they will not call in the police a second time. they've given assurances to the protesters for jon, back to you.

jon: steve harrigan at columbia university. it would seem, there was a lot of attention paid when police did move in an arrest that first batch of protesters. it seemed to quiet some of the trouble they are. why would columbia announce for not going to do that again? can you explain that? >> it does seem unusual to give your tactics to the other side in advance. we have seen administrators struggle with just how to handle this all across the country. interestingly we have seen some real success in some places like florida they threaten students with a three year suspension. with other universities like emory they used tear gas immediately or others in texas at austin they sent in police on horseback. often a quick forcible response has produced quite on campuses campusthis back-and-forth that columbia has just produced two weeks of headaches. jon: steve harrigan at colombia

columbiauniversity in new york,k you. we are driving little controversy. first up the boston magazine contributing editor who wrote a fascinating new piece titled white harvard university is failing at everything. jon keller is the author of that piece. heat joins us now. it is an interesting article as i said and a long one. why is harvard failing at everything? >> oh well, jon, first of all thank you for having me. basically when you talk about harvard you have to understand you are talking about huge institution. there are many different harvard's. the harvard we are talking about in this context is the undergraduate element of it. the faculty of arts and sciences. basically what has happened is harvard seems to have lost the thread of how to run their

institution. the corporation that harvard is has become so big, so complex with so many competing interests it's basically turning out to be ungovernable. certainly not governable by the administrators who brought in a whole set of ideas about tolerance that are not necessarily in accord with the law at least so say those who are suing the university over concerns about anti-semitism. jon: it did not help the former president newly resigned was accused of plagiarism. the kind of academic corruption that corrodes an elite school. really any school. >> harvard's slog slogan says it there on the seal. truth. but that's really the element harvard has struggled with the most and so many different ways.

harvard does not like to tell the truth about itself to the outside world but does not even care to communicate very effectively with the outside world. nay don't tell the truth about what they have been doing to combat campus anti-semitism for this article in boston magazine. i interviewed a distinguished razz by rabbi who was appointed to a task force to study anti-semitism on the campus after october 7. and to make recommendations a die of diggers of people were on it. they started making recommendations on a daily basis he finally resigned and discussed saying it was because they were not acting on the recommendations there is a paralysis there. i got this assignment to write about harvard's woes before the infamous congressional hearing were clotting gate and the other

college presidents made unwanted headlines around the world. so they were problems that harvard they go back a long way. but certainly know the world knows about it struggles to come up with a coherent policy to make the campus safe for. >> most people would think harvard is the premier, the preeminent u.s. university. but, your research suggests it's toppling in many of those area. >> 'is gone a long way to fall. no one involved with the running of a harvard is going to miss a meal anytime in the near future. the endowment is still the largest university endowment in the world. harvard still excels in many, many ways. so let's be fair about this. but the bloom is off the rose. it's been a very difficult time. the endowment is down. job placements for its graduates

are down. and the wake of the ham-fisted response to october 7, many prominent donors have started to pull their funding from harvard and expressed anger over what is become of harvard bridge that's the kind of thing that really gets their attention. far more than anything you or i might say. arthel: jon keller contributing editor at boston magazine i would point our viewers to that piece is quite good, thank you. >> thank you. >> what needs to happen at least at the beginning is the universityuniversity presidentso get control of the situation. allow free speech and push back against anti-semitism. >> we have seen reports they are being paid to do this. i believe there are paid agitators that go around too different events. all they want to do is disrupt other people's lives. they need to get a life of their own. our investigation will be wide

ranging and deep. jon: those are some of their public and lawmakers urging college administrators to defend their campuses in the midst of all the turmoil defense of freedom spokeswoman angela is here to wait and she was press secretary for former education secretary betsy devos. thanks angela very much for being with us. what is it deriving this campus evil really? quick search quite a few forces in play. first and most obvious of the students the schools have admitted and the faculty they have hired anti-semitic outbreaks are not just unfortunate occurrences that happen sometimes it's a very predictable outcome of higher education system that for too long for tickly at the elite levels has allowed the hate and ignorance to fester. it's also a consequence of a's well networked and funded set of

organizations that are helping coordinate these protests. it's also what happens when you have a failure of leadership at the highest levels. all it takes is one phone call for kobe to bring in the cops. for any school's use the resources at their disposal to protect their jewish students. they are making a conscious choice not to do so for. >> and sorry to interrupt columbia said they are not going to call and the cops again for they did it once, not going to do it again. >> that is right there handing these protesters these terrorist sympathizers their playbook. quite frankly protesters are accomplishing when they set out to do which is so chaos of jewish students who are afraid to walk across campus just to go to class or see their friends. you got the university of southern california saying they are canceling their mainstage graduation. they are giving up and allowing the proverbial inmates to run the asylum rather than to do the bare minimum to provide a safe learning environment. jon: some of those inmates and professors are demanding amnesty

in the middle of all of this. saying if they get arrested or if they miss a class or if they don't turn in a paper they should get amnesty because of the import of the protests. what you think about that? >> it is patently ridiculous. when these people said they went amnesty with a really mean is they want privilege where they want a double standard to be looked at differently in the eyes of the law because of who they are and what they are doing. all of these colleges are legal adults that should be treated as such. they need to be held accountable and face consequences for their illegal actions. jon: has is like a plan to me k you. >> was go back once again to another college where this is happening again put ucla campus christina coleman is there live. >> hi jon. i can type emotions are running high here on campus this is an example of what we are talking about. you can see's of the pro-

israelite protesters who are upset for them and going back and forth with one of the pro- palestinian protesters as you can see there are lots of security here. we're going to go ahead and move this way walking throughout the campus. you can see a lot of law enforcement here they are on bikes. their officers, a whole line of them moments ago heading back the other way. there was a large group of protesters just moments ago it looks like the groups are dispersing. go out and take a look at this video from earlier. pro is really an rally went off at ucla this morning it was met with counter protesters who came to demonstrate in support of an ongoing pro- palestinian cam and on campus. eventually some quote physical altercations broke out after one of the groups breached a barrier designed to keep it to protest separate parade that according to a short statement released by the university this afternoon. it is unclear which side escalated the situation.

the rally was organized by a coalition of outside pro-israel groups in support of jewish ucla students. take a listen. >> we arrange this in advance it was permanent we had flyers. when we indulge this kind of thing we not only incentivize them we also and incentivize bad behavior. weight can't incentivize bad behavior not in the middle east and not right here on her campuses. [inaudible] quickly just want the other side to look into our arguments. like the other side they just call everyone hamas supporters and calling everyone terrorist. >> you can see some of the officers are leaving. a lot of the protesters have cleared out. again emotions running very, very high. pro- palestinian protesters are calling the university divestment from israel.

the university putting out a statement on friday singapore at the university of california has consistently opposed calls for boycott against an divestment from israel. while the university affirms the right of our community members to express diversity of viewpoints and boycott of the sorts impinges on the academic freedom of our students and faculty. unfettered exchange of ideas on our campus. as you can see within moments it has cleared out. but again within moments emotions run high it's gotten very tense. we saw that earlier today. hundreds of people here on campus you've pro- palestinian protesters, pro- israeli protesters a number of times they were in each other's faces for they were yelling, they were shouting we have had a chance from some pro- palestinian protesters chanting from the river to the sea. again very hurtful for the pro- israeli protesters here on campus. again it right now things are very calm we are hoping they say that way. jon: i may have missed it in the earlier part of your report, christina but did anyone get

arrested? did police tell any of the people away do you know? >> so far no word on arrested no word on exactly who started the altercation. again all we know there were some barricades that were breached. things got pretty tense. he hasn't university condemning any violence here. again this is a very ongoing fluid situation throughout the university you will see different groups of protesters some groups have two or three students. others have 20 or 30. that is kind of in how this is playing out to the past hour. i know a law enforcement was working to disperse those groups and try to keep things calm clear on campus. jon: i have a daughter who attended there and glad she is gone. christina coleman, thank you. >> thank you. now to our other top story but intense weekend storm set up a

deadly tornado outbreak across the heartland this week. the governor of oklahoma said at least four people were killed and infant reportedly among them. twelve oklahoma counties under state of emergency as cleanup efforts are underway now. tens of thousands of people are without power. millions still face the threat of severe weather. strong winds and twisters tour park homes, churches and businesses. oklahoma, iowa and nebraska among the hardest hit states. one driver is lucky to be alive after being caught driving in the middle of a powerful storm yesterday oklahoma. she quickly flipped over like five times. i heard the whistling so bad and i was over there. >> we have team boxing coverage fox with a correspondent nicole valdes and hard-hit elkhorn, nebraska first meteorologist adam klotz with a light look at the forecast for us. >> hey there, jon. very active weekend for beginning to fade out a little

bit still, as we speak there is some risk of tornadoes particularly across portions of eastern texas for that's where we have seen the most activity so far today. it's too on a scale of five is first threat goes to print is on the lower end but we have seen a couple storms continue to fire up. it's very similar to what was in the last several days. still all the storm stretched across the middle of the country however the more impactful ones at least today are little further south there is current severe thunderstorms were coming across portions of oklahoma. we know how badly they have been hit the severe thunderstorm has went up to 60 miles per hour. at least some hail wrapped in with all the storm systems. a little further south we have a couple tornado worn to storms that's what you're looking at right here. these have been slow moving about 25 miles an hour. that variable could be a tornado

on the grip. receiving rotation here in our forecast in our radar imagery. a little further south we have another tornado warning that's two current treated warning stretching across portions of texas for this is going to continue for the next several hours and relate texas for the rest of today into the overnight hours is going to be the bull's-eye. jon: meteorologist adam klotz, thank you. they too picking up the pieces for nebraska residents is more potential storms and tornadoes loom over them. officials say multiple homes of been destroyed by tornado so far thousands of people or so without power tonight. "fox weather" it nicole valdes has more from one cleanup site just outside omaha. >> the horror across america's heartland build gut wrenching the entry second day of cleanup here in elkhorn, nebraska. and unfortunately for so many storms have really complicated today's cleanup. it is not stop the army of

volunteers working to clear an immense amount of debris that now surround the shell of what were dozens of home and this one community is loan. as you take a look at what was once a line of homes now leveled. in some cases nothing but a pile of debris. pieces of wood and metal siding and roofs and t torn to pieces e sheer force of the monster tornado that moved through this community friday afternoon. it is a terrifying and nights nebraskans will not soon forget as many of them are likely re- living through that moment. as they look over what was once their home. but talking to survivors some tell us they took shelter in their basements. others jumping into their trucks. putting their family members and trying to outrun the storm. officials reminding us there is

a silver lining in all of this devastation that everyone here in elkhorn survived this disruption. something officials including chaplains and the douglas county sheriff's office say they are shocked to hear but relieved. >> you look at this kind of devastation you expect to have a loss of life. right now a were only hearing minor injuries. he is working on drafting an emergency declaration for several counties across the state of nebraska to give those victims expert resources and hopefully the federal government and help them get through the next few difficult days, weeks, and months to come. >> unbelievable paired fox weather nicole valdes in elkhorn, nebraska. coming up on the fox report a day off monday at the new york versus trump criminal trial. when proceedings resume on tuesday, cb cotton, what can we

jon: president biden spoke at the white house correspondents dinner last night poking fun at his own age taking a lot of shots of former president trump. the annual event went on despite the best efforts of pro- palestinian demonstrators to disrupt it. lucas tomlinson's live at the white house with more. >> that his rights it. it was a night filled with jokes of the inner white house correspondents dinner. president biden taking shots at his opponent former president donald trump. >> age is the only thing we have in common. my vice president actually endorses me. [laughter] trump is so desperate he started reading those bibles he is selling. >> last night, jon, as you mention protesters lay down on connecticut avenue. you can see here to block traffic and harass some of the reporters attending the dinner some protesters managed to look inside. these two protesters from code pink faked eight medical emergency we are told they scream for security who then came and kicked them out. did not appear the protesters had any impact on the festivities. president biden was not immune to some of the jokes. >> is excited to be appear on stage with president biden. mostly to see if i could figure out where obama was pulling the strings from? [laughter] i have to admit it's not easy following president biden. is not always easy following what he is saying. >> today the president was back to work. he spoke to israel's prime minister biden cautioned against

tuesday giving them a long weekend to process the first full week of testimony. former president donald trump the first criminal trial. a key witness for the prosecution former tabloid boss david a packer was on the witness stand for four days last week and testified his publishing company was part of the "catch and kill" scheme with former president donald trump and trump's ex lawyer michael cohen. packer said he agreed to buy up potentially damaging stories with no intention of ever running them. trump's defense team elicited testimony from packer trying to show this arrangement was not unusual but rather a standard procedure in the tabloid industry former federal prosecutor says this. >> 's stories are coming out that are unfortunately defamatory to summons a personal interest they do these "catch and kill" programs for it does not have to do with politics it has to do with reputation,

trump's new york criminal trial let's bring in trey a trial attendant based in los angeles. so, from what we saw it last week where do you predict the prosecution is going this week? >> is going to be a little less interesting this week. you've got to remember this is a legal documents case. even though we have a lot of salacious of testimony out there it's really about proving at documents as payments to stormy daniels is 34 entries into ledgers. they need to take the time to have witnesses land foundation for the documents make sure they get into evidence for this is going to constitute more rudimentary witnesses, shorter times on the stand. a little less interesting testimony but then we will eventually get to the more substantive testament of michael cohen and stormy daniels. jon: you say the constitution they are trying to take to legal and tried it mash it into an illegal? >> you do it's legal contortion

is in. they are taking the idea of entering into a nondisclosure agreement which is done every day in the business and legal work it's very legal. they are taken the concept of "catch and kill" which also is eightalegal publishing practice. contort them together try to squeeze out a felony. there's so many bridges to cross and dots to connect that it is showing more and more difficult as the trial goes on. jon: if i were to run for the mayor of new york city for instance i found out the "new york times" was going to do a hit piece on meat very unflattering story and i paid eight lawyer to call up the times and threaten them, could i be criminally charge? >> i don't know threatening them but it would have to be a deal. if you are selling the rights to a story in somebody else's purchasing those rights they're purchasing the right to do whatever they want with it. as long as they pay the money and the consideration they can publish it. they can quash it. they can do it they wish. on that side of it there's

violent tornado, violent tor tornado. [background noises] all i remember as i flip over like five times. i hear the whistling so bad i was over there. jon: lucky driver for dramatic video out of oklahoma showing widespread damage after powerful tomatoes rip across the state yesterday. lawmakers are working to quickly secure federal aid for those communities in need. the governor said at least four people are dead. senator showing a tragic update on fox news live this afternoon. >> i found out a very long time employee of mine that has been working for the official office for 12 years, the infant that was killed was his niece. that is what happens in rural america we are all interconnected but at the same time it's when you see the best

of all of us. jon: even more severe storms are expected. meteorologist adam klotz with a live look at the forecast for a >> for a brand-new storm reports just coming in and the last several minutes. more severe weather still on the way we are targeting oklahoma and texas more so today the eastern portion of both of those states but didn't see were all that activity is fired up. everyone of those colored boxes, those of polygons are severe warm to storms of some sort. this went moving through tolls assuring winds of 60 miles per hour. we have seen hail of 20-inch for that particular system that is the severe thunderstorm. there's also tornadoes on the ground. this storm approaching interstate 40 across portions of eastern oklahoma. that's an observed tornado a spotter has seen a tornado on the ground moving to the north/northeast but this particular storm so that's it for oklahoma for now. the ingredients are there that those could continue to spin up over portions of texas. we're also seeing severe weather this is severe thunderstorm a little further south.

that's a possible tornado a tornado warning you're looking from waco stretching towards tyler with the cell. they were at powerful storms making that move appear on top of that heavy rain. flood alerts in place taking all the way to the weekend. i want to quickly see if i can get to it severe weather forecast for tomorrow. this does continue for the next several days. jon: meteorologist adam klotz thanks of. sulfur, oklahoma one of the areas hit hardest yesterday. box weather correspondent brandy campbell is never reporting live for us. >> jon, yesterday it was a dangerous day for oklahomans. severe weather spun up several fortune natives. even because of flash flooding across 12 counties. right now we are in sulfur, oklahomans from the downtown area which has seen devastating impacts from the storms. now, you can see the damage in this video in sulfur as storms continue to lighting up the sky.

these storms were deadly but so far we know at least four people were killed. two fatalities happen and hold and fill killing at least 8-quart month old baby. a third person was killed on 5:30 five near marietta most recently oklahoma governor announced a fourth person was found here and sulfur in a bar this afternoon. actually do want to point out that bar is not far behind us in the downtown area. the governor said he has seen the worst damage over the six years have been governor this is the worst damage choosing from a tornado since we are here will give you a little bit of a closer look at. we are in a safe spot to put all the media and from the distance we can see windows blown out. a roof missing from a larger brick building back there. even just sticks just sticking up in the air raid that's also from a building where the sports bar was. i know on top of that i am told local officials excuse me the
