blazing fire, if our church burns up, the god we serve is able to deliver us from it. >> united in faith. two different houses of worship join forces today to serve the faithful. thanks for joining us, in dion lim. and east bay struggling church obligation is rising from the ashes one week after a fire destroyed oakland's first african methodist episcopal church. the church on telegraph avenue is the oldest black church in the east bay, and was badly damaged by fire last sunday. today parishioners were able to wash up once again thanks to a nearby jewish synagogue which opened its doors. abc7 news reporter cornell barnard was there. ♪ >> yes, we were maybe a little broken and sad. but we are alive and we will

rise out of the ashes. reporter: members of oakland's first methodist episcopal church were back in the pews for a day of worship, only this was at a synagogue. >> praise and gratitude to the rabbi. [cheers and applause] reporter: temple beth abraham opened its doors, hours after learning a fire had destroyed the historic church on telegraph avenue on february 19. >> it's just heartbreaking, but the fact that we could make something happen and give them a place to pray is amazing. >> sometimes we don't know why god allows -- but one thing is for certain, we will rise again. reporter: pastor smith says same is oakland oldest african-american church, dating back to the 1850's. >> never in a million years did i think i would be pastoring in a church that burnt down three years after a, but it happened.

god must have chosen me to helped be a part of the solution. reporter: smith says the solution means making the ministry greater than it was >> our focus is how can we bring people together how can we bring the city together? how can we use tragedy to do something special? reporter: a gofundme account has raised almost $50,000 to help rebuild. for now, parishioners are feeling blessed to be back together after a difficult week. >> it's not about being sad, depressed or anything like that, it's about a new beginning and a new start. reporter: the congregation is invited to return to the temple again next sunday. the cause of the church fire is still under investigation. >> we know we have got a long journey ahead of us. but it is good to take all of us together. reporter: in oakland, cornell barnard, abc7 news. dion: our other top story, the showers that moved back into the bay area today, there you see it in belmont, raining and cooling

up on the roads. spencer christian joins us now. and this is just the beginning? spencer: the beginning of another string of wet-weather days. as you pointed out, we just had showers. now we have study downpours. if you look at live doppler seven meaning on the east bay in reaching down to the south bay and part of the peninsula, still getting a downpour. the storm ranks level one on the exclusive abc7 impact scale. we can expect more times of showers that the rain will taper off, too tense to five tons of an inch of rainfall and snow levels down to 3000 feet. we expect the storms to sweep out of the bay area by 11:00 tonight, giving us a break. but early tomorrow morning, another cold winter storm is coming in. it may also produce snow in the hills. i will have a look at that and the accuweather 7-day forecast coming up later.

dion: sounds good, spencer. thanks. crews are working to restore fire after a week of wild weather brought down trees and power lines. you can see the trouble spots on this pg&e map. at last check, more than 4000 customers were witho electricity. across the state, 120,000 people lost electricity today. contra costa county residents impacted by the storms in december and january still have time to apply for federal assistance. a new disaster recovery center opened today at the civic center. residents can apply for help from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.. it will be open through february and then it will move to community presbyterian church in pittsburgh. and a reminder, you can keep track of weather conditions and access the same live doppler seven anytime you want, you can find it on-demand demand on the abc7 bay area up, just downloade it.

community coming together and being one. reporter: reporter: amber lester is the cofounder of the black joy parade, and says the weather is setting a special tone. >> it even more beautiful to see other people come out knowing that it is going to be cold and wet and they are still dedicated to this moment. >> i am so excited and i am so happy that we did not let a little rain melt us reporter: reporter: people coming from near, and far. daniel hamlin making the trip from long beach. >> we are going to come together as one and celebrate how amazing it is to be black. i am grateful to be here! reporter: out, everyone smiling. everyone really gets to see something positive about oakland and that is the best part of today.

dion: a string of violence in an east of the neighborhood. since friday four people have been shot along international boulevard. yesterday about midnight officers found a person shot near 84th in international. soon after, police located a second victim who had crashed into april on 82nd and international. both were taken to the hospital. friday night, there were three deadly shootings in the city, dump along international boulevard, on the 70000 and 7200 blocks. oakland police are investigating. meantime, chp is investigating a shooting that left a woman dead on the oakland freeway or from. just after 1:30 a.m. in the morning, officers received a report of a victim being assaulted at 580 edwards avenue. emergency personnel found she had been shot. that woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities do not have emotive with no suspect located.

tomorrow, and oakland school number will host a zoom town to discuss the district's finances. she will hold a virtual meeting with oakland unified cfo to discuss how the district can best use its resources. the town hall is set to start at 5:30 p.m. part of the conversation is expected to focus on teacher pay. for the past four months, oakland teachers have been working without a contract. negotiations continue, but ousd is warning about an unexpected budget deficit. moving to the south bay where community members showed up to support two street vendors, who were recently attacked in san jose. organizers held a cookout in support of the victims, and to raise awareness. carlos sanchez, you remember, was taunted and even threatened by a man with a baseball bat, and days earlier, saul was brutally attacked from behind and knocked unconscious. today both victims served customers at the site where sanchez was attacked.

dion: our stormwatch coverage takes us to southern california, where you can see some dramatic images here of the damage. a soup hillside gave way in valencia, just north of los angeles, where three motorhomes were swept into the santa clara river. downtown l.a. received nearly 4.5 inches of rain from the recent storm, with some neighborhoods getting more than 10 inches. i-5 in the atwater of los angeles is open again, but here is what that stretch of highway looks like for much of the weekend. severe flooding several cards submerged on the highway. it led to a closure of all lanes, starting at 7:00 a.m. yesterday. caltrans had to use several portable pumps to drain floodwater of the highway as

well. and check this out, more snow in the sierra, and more is underway. you can see the roads in tahoe. this is a view earlier in the day. chains are required on interstate 80 and highway 50. caltrans returned from their weakening the sierra by keeping the roads clear. good for skiing. travel, not so much. spencer: not so much, t-storms brought several feet of snow and the storms coming up, later this week several more feet of snow coming. dion: brace yourselves. spencer: skiers, get ready. drivers, stay home. [laughter] still have some active weather, over the storm has exited their north bay in the area around the golden gate and much of san francisco, but it is pushing southward and eastward. we have rain from fremont and stanford down to san jose. it is all beginning to push out of the bay area right now. this storm on the abc7 exclusive storm impact scale is a level 1.

tonight we can expect periods of rain and heavy downpours, but tapering off overnight and will be left with rainfall totals anywhere from .2 inches, to 0.5 inches. snow levels will be down to 3000 feet. this is a cold storm. here is the view over san francisco where it is not raining right now, you can see some brakes developing in the clouds. 48 in the city. 49 in palo alto. half moon bay, 48. 50 in san jose and santa clara. you can see a few raindrops on the cumberland. the rain has ended in emeryville. temperature readings right now, 50 at nevada, upper 40's at napa, fairfield, concord and livermore. from the rooftop camera here across the embarcadero, nice to see that it is not raining right now. these are over forecast future rain, it will continue over the evening and it will be cold

overnight. a colder storm arrives tomorrow with a slight chance of thunderstorms, followed by another storm on tuesday. the current storm will give us a break for a while, but tomorrow morning between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m., the next storm will slip through and it will have some energy to it. overnight lows will drop to the low to mid 30's in the inland valleys, upper 40's near the coast and the bay. haze tomorrow around 50, 49-51 degrees. tuesday morning, the third storm sweeps through and it will be a cold one as well, bringing snow to the higher elevations and pockets of rain to the lower elevations. rainfall totals from tuesday night from the accumulated

storms will range from 1.2 five inches to 1.75 inches. a winter weather advisory is in effect tomorrow morning for the hills, east bay, santa clara hills and the north bay, snow levels dropping down to 2500 feet. and there is another winter storm warning in effect until 4:00 a.m. wednesday. here is the accuweather 7-day forecast. two more days of wet weather coming our way. tuesday a break, wednesday, thursday and friday, and then more rain and next week and! chris: g so was this wonderful ceremony last night for patrick marleau, the first shark to ever have his number retired in san jose. it was number two. in 1987. they played 15 years together. both tonight shedding happy tears. >> i got the benefit from him on the ice, but mostly from his optimism and being a great guy. he has become much more than just a teammate, but a friend i am happy to have for life. >> i am happy to have a guy that can shoot like patrick. i think we probably need both from each other. i think our place showed that. it was a perfect fit together. i can't say enough good things about patrick marleau. chris: today the sharks reportedly traded timo meier to the new jersey devils, no indication what they get back in the deal. he was in his seventh year with the sharks. he had 37 goals and was second in the team in points, with

>> women's lacrosse team found a practical way to warm up for a reset much, all while stuck on a road trip. [screaming] [laughter] dion: oh my gosh. they are amazing! they are so strong! that players from university in north carolina muscled up to help push the bus out of the mud, on the way to a match in virginia. they went on to win the match, their very first road win of the season. i think the warm-up worked!
