josh lederman, thank you so much for those breaking details. we appreciate it. now to the historic flooding in south florida days after more than two feet of rain fell. some neighborhoods are still flooded as we get a new look at the damage. sam brock spent the last few days in ft. lauderdale. he is back this morning. >> reporter: joe, good morning. many neighborhoods in ft. lauderdale have seen a drop in flood waters. some waters have receded enterally, but others are coping with 1 to 3 feet of water. what a difference of night and day. i was in edgewood 12 hours ago, joe. this water, which is now at about the start of my boot, was

up 2 or 3 feet. i'll walk over to the house here. i was talking to the family a second ago. the residents say the water levels were at their knee yesterday. if you see the car, it is close to the bumper. i was in a high-water vehicle with the fire and rescue personnel navigating the waters and floating down the road here and now i can walk down it. as far as the they were performing the last three days, 1,000 people were rescued or assisted. what they told me is there were three scenarios that came up. one, people stranded on top of cars and had to be taken away. you see folks in kayaks there. you have older residents who had to be taken from the homes to get food and medicine. and then folks trying to walk through the slush with their belongings and needing help to do that physically. all of the crews are coming in and doing what they can to try to help residents here who have been soaked, joe. how do you get all this water

traveling with the president. peter? >> reporter: kristen, good morning. spoken with white house officials here over the week, they acknowledged how alarming this leak was. as you said, jack teixeira, the air national guard member, was in federal court on friday. the alleged source of the largest leaks of top secrets in years. he is facing charges under the espionage act of possessing and sharing documents. details about the american allies as well. on thursday, an fbi tack squad surrounded teixeira's home. he is said to be a gun enthusiast and he was ordered out with his hands up. president biden weighed in since the arrest for the first time. he instructed investigators to figure out why teixeira had access to the classified documents in the first place and how much secret information he

had. kristen. >> a lot of pressure on the president to get to the bottom of what happened. peter, i want to ask you about something you and i spend every day trying to report on which is if and when the president is going to officially announce he is running for re-election. he teased his run overnight. what did he say? >> reporter: definitely a lot of anticipation for this. before leaving, president biden was asked by reporters if the last few days changed his thinking of an announcement. the president said he made the calculus. he will announce the plans to run again in 2024, in his words, quote, relatively soon. president biden is back in the states this morning. he did end his trip with what really did feel, i think, like a homecoming. more than 20,000 people packed the streets of county where his ancestors lives. the president visiting a

through this wednesday. it is giving the court time to decide next steps after the attorney general vowed to challenge the texas court ruling. the situation that is unfolding in a pair of contradictory court cases in texas and washington making it impossible for the fda to follow the law. the federal appeals court decided to suspend the approval of the abortion pill as the texas court ruled. the court rolled back access to mifepristone. if those rulings hold, women need to visit the doctor's office to obtain the pill. no longer having the option of taking it at home. the drug would only be approved through seven weeks of pregnancy instead of ten. the generic version off the table. it is setting up the legal battle on abortion since overturning roe v. wade last

healing meant surgery and therapy. j.p. and paul lost legs in the bombings. they turned trauma into another calling by helping other amputees. michelle blackburn was cheering at a finish line when she ended p racing to the hospital to save her leg. >> does april 15th hit you differently every year? >> i think any time you go through a trauma, it is fluid. i spent years avoiding it. >> reporter: today, she is thriving. a wife and mother of two and now a runner who plans to finish the boston marathon this year until an injury held her back. >> it goes to show healing is a long journey. it is a good reminder we're all human and, you know, we have to change sometimes and pivot. >> reporter: as boston prepares to look back on the day, the swell of support hasn't stopped with the commitment each year to
