we didn't know their names in life sh dwell know them in h them. >> we now know names of the victims killed in the half moon bay shooting. what we know about the lives taken too soon. it's been several months since the attack on paul pelosi. what prosecutors must release from the night of the incident. we have cooler temperatures and a splash of showers. i will time that out in your full forecast. it's starting to get busy especially for super commuters

making the trek tracy to the altamont. i will have your travel times. developing, the man accused of committing mass shooting in half moon bay at the place where he lived and worked has been charged with seven counts of murder. the 66-year-old hid his face behind a piece of paper in a san mateo courtroom yesterday. the district attorney is diving into his past. the d.a. tells us his office believes they know a motive in the shooting but stopped short of revealing it. we know a clue was found inside the suspect's car. >> there was a note inside the car. we are not revealing that. the question was whether this is evidence of copy cat of monterey park, and we believe the answer is no. it is not just simply we are not sure. we believe the answer is no. >> we know the names of the victims. they are five men and two women ranging in age from 43

to 74, mexican and asian immigrants. an eighth is hospitalized. we are getting a look at one of their faces. this is 50-year-old martinez jimenez. >> reporter: this is not only turning into a memorial for those lives lost monday afternoon but also a gathering spot for members of the community. we have seen people stopping with flowers and cards, notes of support and condolence for the seven people killed including 50-year-old martinez jimenez. he lived in half moon by for 25 years and worked at concord farms. he was also a volunteer at a clinic. his family is trying to raise money to get his body back home to be buried next to his parents. at the memorial in the park, people have stopped to pray or just take a few quiet moments to reflect on events of the

past few days. a local florist brought by 70 bouquets of roses to leave at the memorial while another woman who has worked in half moon bay's agricultural community for more than a decade brought candles, one with each victim's name on it. >> they're not recognizable in the community. they're invisible without transportation and without resources. we didn't know their names in life. we should darn well know them in having lost them to serving us and serving our agricultural community. >> they provide so much for us. i guess it hits home a little bit. my dad and a lot of uncles have been farm workers. it sucks that we can't even be safe at our jobs anymore. >> reporter: we have seen a few community members with no direct ties to agricultural community stop with flowers, cards, stuffed animals. this is a small coastal

community of maybe 13,000 people. what people told us is this affects everyone in the community whether they know someone who is directly impacted or not. now, there is a vigil planned in downtown at this park main street and kelly avenue friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. everyone from the community is invited to attend. >> we are all thinking of the victims and their families. stay with cbs news bay area for continuing coverage of the half moon bay shooting. we'll bring the latest on air and online. let's get a check on how things will be looking. a lot of us are looking forward to the niners game. a lot of us will be out watching maybe at restaurants. >> i think it will be great at restaurants probably inside. we have a splash of showers into sunday's forecast but it's a light amount. it will be a gloomy day with partly cloudy skies. this morning wind gusts are up to 30 miles an hour for the next couple hours. in the north bay, gusty even for friends along the

peninsula just on the coastal side near the pacific. into the evening, the winds will start dying down. high pressure has been parked offshore and it's been keeping us dry and also pretty warm. we are sitting well above average. once that moves away, we are left with cooler air from the north. this low pressure will bring in a mixed bag of things into the weekend. for example, cooler temperatures with the cold polar air mass moving into our coastline. we are also expecting a splash of showers around the corner. this times out to happen on sunday. i will talk about totals we can expect in the full forecast. it is nothing like what we have been dealing with for the past weeks. just a light splash of showers. >> just a little bit and mostly for sunday. >> exactly. it will clear by monday. >> it probably won't affect your morning commute which is good. today was tough for commuters into the altamont pass area. i know i talk about super

commuters all the time. it's the area that gets the busiest the earliest. it's really trouble some today because we have crashes and in addition there is road work on west bound 580 east of paterson pass. it's in the number two lane. they have it shut down for pot hole repair. this will affect your drive today and tomorrow. if you are thinking about friday morning's commute, maybe you can work from home. that may not be a bad idea. this is not a good way to start the day for the commute. >> certainly not. time for a look at the other top stories. we may soon see video of the hammer attack on nancy pelosi's husband. the california judge ruled prosecutors must release surveillance video, body camera video, and audio from the night david depape allegedly attacked paul pelosi in the pelosi san francisco home. depape's attorney tried to

block the release of the recordings saying it could prevent him getting a fair trial. the judge said since it is already submitted as evidence, it should be made public. president biden announced a boost in fire power for ukraine. u.s. is set for 31 top of the line tanks on the front lines. current tanks on the front lines in ukraine date back to soviet times. new tanks should start arriving by end of march. hours after residents in kyiv took shelter in a subway station from new russian missile strikes overnight. committee with food and drug administration could vote today on proposal for annual covid vaccine like the flu shot. cdc would also need to sign off on the plan. the hope is to streamline the multi shot process that may have discouraged into

welcome back. it's been a little bit breezy throughout the bay area and it will continue to be the case for the afternoon. heading into the 10:00 hour near the mouth of the bay heading into that bay bridge near oakland and even into san francisco, we can see gusts up to 35 and even 40 miles per hour. luckily once we extend to the afternoon, it dies down significantly. i will say we are left with one more breezy morning. high temperatures are in the 70s in the north bay. we have mild conditions throughout the rest of the bay area but this is thanks to high pressure offshore. once that moves out we are left with low pressure moving in and that's a different set up all alone into the weekend. we will see cooler temperatures, a splash of showers and wind directions will change too. here is the rain system that's quickly moving in.

it's not a lot but it happens as we head into sunday. this is not an atmospheric river. that will come in this direction. this splash comes from the north so it is cold, dense air. we will be left with highs in the upper 40s, lower 50s this weekend. a tenth of an inch throughout the bay area so big changes are on the way. sunrise today is at 7:18, a beautiful sunny day across the bay area, upper 60s in san francisco down into san jose. 70s are returning for some of us in the north bay too. around the corner, 40s will make their debut next week. let's look at the roadways. if you are ready to get up early and make the drive along the nimitz freeway, a live look at 880, we are seeing brake lights. itgetting slow for our friends making that trek. this is as you approach the

san mateo bridge area. this is connector roads too as you merge over to maybe get towards the bridge or if you are taking an exit ramp, you might see busy conditions. here is san mateo bridge. once you take 880 to the san mateo bridge, it is okay. we are not seeing major brake lights or issues. not the case for the bay bridge. it is already busy for people making the trek into san francisco. metering lights are on. it is sluggish as you head into the city. what's also busy is the commute in and out of the altamont pass. there is road work west bound 580 east of paterson pass. 49ers were out in full force at levi stadium to grab last minute gear. they also had a chance to check out red and gold final open practices before nfc

l.a. county sheriffs office revealing new information about the suspect in the monterey park shooting. deputies believe he used this unregistered mac 10 gun to kill 11 victims. he bought his legally in 1999. the gunman died by suicide with a hand gun. a rifle was found at his home and both were registered. as for possible motive, investigators don't have many leads. his only known criminal history was arrest for unlawful possession of a firearm in 1990. >> based on interviews investigators are still conducting, they have not been

front door, be careful on the roads. winds will luckily start dying down into the afternoon hours and it will be a thing of the past at that point. the reason we have been dealing with above average temperatures day by day is thanks to high pressure. that's also the driving factor for these winds. into the weekend, a big change is on the way, low pressure returning. that's going to cool us significantly. enjoy these above average conditions we are still dealing with. it is upper 60s across the board for the most part and even 70s for our friends into santa rosa. big changes this weekend and even a splash of showers. >> anyone heading to philly, they'll have to bring a jacket. we are so pumped about the niner game. here is a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. you see it is already backed

up. if you are in larger vehicles, be careful as you work across the span. it is windy out there, so keep that in mind. that back up is in full swing for commuters heading into the city. a live look at 205, 580, things are pretty slow. that's an area where we are seeing tough conditions for the morning commute. there is a closure west bound 580 east of paterson pass. that's making it busy for anyone out of tracy into altamont pass area. we have a handful of crashes and trouble spots in and around there. look at that, speeds are five miles per hour, nine miles per hour. that's a really slow commute. the warriors got a dramatic win at home over memphis grizzlies even though steph curry was ejected. pool tried a three pointer instead of passing. he removed his mouth piece in frustration and threw it into

preparing tax returns. what's new this year? >> i think this year will feel more like prepandemic years. that's because of the most emergency programs, they're gone over the course of last year. but due to a washington, dc holiday, tax failing deadline is april 18th , not the 15th. procrastinators have a few extra days. be on the look out for w2, 1099. you will receive your bank, investment, mutual fund over the next weeks. a lot of these are available online. if you are an itemizer review checking accounts for deductions like charitable donations. use not last year's return but use the 2019 year return. that will be your guide to what is missing. if you use intervening years, you will get messed up. >> good to know. i am excited i get an extra

it is sunny today and tomorrow. into the weekend, a big change is on the way. this system in the distance will bring us showers returning to the forecast. no, this is not an atmospheric river. that's why i wanted to show you. we would have seen it coming from the pacific if that was the case. this is light drizzle from the north. it will bring cooler temperatures and a tenth of an inch of rain on average throughout the bay as we head into the weekend. sunny skies today, beautiful weather to get out an exercise. even tomorrow will be mild. notice how temperatures day by day go in a downward direction. we'll cool off a lot into next week. we are talking about 60s and 70s today. monday, it's 40s around the corner. keep the jacket handy and keep the umbrella for sunday. >> jackets are always in my car for days like that. days like today are tough for super commuters. if you have not left and make the trek out of tracy into

altamont pass area, pack your patience. this is a live look, look at the traffic. it is bumper to bumper. this is from kovr, perspective % that tracy commute into altamont pass. there is a lane closure on west bound 580 at paterson pass because of a pot hole in the road way. keep that in mind. let's look at conditions at the san mateo bridge. closer to home, things look better. this is mobile 5. looking at the camera, it's slow actually west bound as you work over mid span area towards 101. it won't be this bad connecting on to san mateo bridge but certainly now tracking slow and go conditions and brake lights. it's already getting tough this morning. let's look at our maps. i want to show you how slow the speeds are for the commute out of tracy on to 580.

it's been dipping down to five, nine miles per hour. there have been crashes in addition to the lane closure due to the emergency road work. that will be today and tomorrow. tomorrow's commute will be similar to what you saw today, maybe less cars hopefully. six miles per hour as you connect near munoz house. metering lights are on and it is slow as you head into san francisco. if you are coming off east shore freeway highway 4 to the maze, that's 25 minutes. look at the altamont pass drive, 84 minutes from 205 to 680. the man accused of committing a mass shooting in half moon bay has been charged with seven counts of murder. the 66-year-old was in a san mateo courtroom yesterday. if convicted he can face life in prison without parole or death penalty. district attorney is diving into his past. he tells us the office believes they know a motive

but stopped short of revealing it. as details surfaced about deadliest mass shooting in san mateo history we are learning about warning signs that were ignored. the violence is example of failed mental health policies and gun laws. >> reporter: two mass shootings in california in the last five days have taken 18 lives as investigators tray to find out why the alleged shooters went on a rampage and evidence is surfacing about one of the suspects' violent past. >> we don't look enough at the mental health crisis and how we will solve that. some of it, hate to say, but maybe mandatory institutionalization is the way to go. >> reporter: the security analyst was a former fbi agent. he now investigates potential dangers in the workplace. >> how many of these do we have to have before we finally go huh, those warning signs

were serious? >> he says suspects in a vast majority of shootings have a history of mental illness. the co-worker claimed zao tried to suffocate him with a pillow and threatened him with a knife. >> it's not just one sign that tells you oh gosh this person will go off the deep end. there is a culmination of events that happen that lead to this. the problem we have is we've got to be able to put the pieces of the puzzle together in a manner that allows us to act. >> in the case of southern california the man in this surveillance video wrestled the weapon away from the shooter at a second location. a psychiatrist with stanford health says people can become a hero by just speaking up. >> i can't advise anyone who is in that kind of acute dangerous situation but he saved lives. if you want a model of what to do, it's to take a threat

seriously and do something about it and get help doing it. >> reporter: the doctor says the pandemic and isolation that came with it may have worsened satisfy people's mental health issues. he adds when you factor in living in a country where guns are accessible, it is a deadly combination. >> the combination of people who lose perspective, may get delusional or get angry or drunk and the ability to kill this many people that fast is a dangerous combination and horrible things will and have happened and will continue until we do something about it. >> reporter: in the case of the half moon bay shooter, he legally purchased a semi automatic hand gun. as lawmakers grapple with issue of gun control, the best advice now is report anything suspicious. >> community members coming together honoring the many lives lost in the string of violence. >> it is emotional because

traditionally our communities are discouraged to speak about negative things in lunar new year. so how do you mourn when you are not supposed to speak about it? but we are creating a space here today so we can lift up those who lost their lives. >> students at santa clara university also holding a vigil on campus. we spoke with one who has close ties to the area of monterey park. >> i wanted to come and mourn with others mainly because my oyster worked close to the place that the shooting happened. it really hit me, shocked me how close everything was to me. >> the shootings in half moon bay are shining a spotlight on living conditions of farm workers. one san jose nonprofit created a caravan to bring much needed help and awareness to the essential workers. >> reporter: ask anyone who organized a relief effort and they'll tell you the challenge

is getting the donations tots people who need it. a south bay woman created a grassroots delfusyy to the san o men's club. call oungfor help for the often unseen farm workers in half moon bay, many reeling from trauma of monday's mass shootings. >> of course you want to help. that was a terrible tragedy. it's just devastating. >> give them everything that's children's. >> reporter: the woman behind the effort is darlene tennis. when the pandemic shut down began she heard about an effort to get relief supplies to farm workers in walt son ville. >> this was a time when there was nothing in stores. with he cleared our personal pantries, put it in the trunks and drove to watsonville and i said we need to do more. >> reporter: that's how the caravan was born. tennis has been organizing

clothing and food drives benefiting workers from the san mateo coast. items are stuffed to as many as 90 passenger vehicles and driven wherever the help is needed. >> it's just every day community. >> reporter: one showed up on foot with a cart full of clothing and a $20 donation. >> we should be helping them. they've done a great job all these years taking care of the country and taking care of us. >> reporter: the car van of cars wasn't necessary thanks to use of a large truck donated for the day by habitat for humanity. that may be a more fuel efficient way but volunteer larry says it's not a bad thing for people to see where their food comes from. >> the whole thing that started with the caravan was to take the donors and have them drive to the farms and see farm workers working. we are here on a saturday having fun and they're out in

to this traffic a lot of super commuters are experiencing. that is out of the tracy area, 580. it is really backed up. this is because the number two lane is shut down. there are only two lanes in the area. this is a live look from sister station kovr. there is emergency pot repair happening and that is why traffic is just bottlenecking through there. if i show you our maps, we've got other problems not far from there that continue. there is a broken down big rig stuck in lanes. there is also a crash that cleared near mount house. a struggle for super commuters in and out of the area. if you are taking public transit, we are dealing with delays. bart and capital corridor. check the schedule before you head out the door. a quick look at bay area bridges, san mateo bridge is busy. we saw mobile 5 about ten minutes ago stuck in the back

up. same for the bay bridge toll plaza, flashing lights off to the side. i will look to see if that's a crash. traffic is slow as you head out of the maze already. a mild breezy today. i know golden hour happens in the evening around sun set but what do you call it in the morning? >> not sure. >> i don't know either. but it looks like golden hour. it's beautiful, skies are clear, temperatures are mild. it's going to be a warm day from the santa clara valley to the santa rosa area. it is breezy. be careful on the roads, gusty conditions along the bay bridge even into the 10:00, 11:00 hour. luckily it will die down leaving us with beautiful conditions to wrap up our thursday and into the much needed friday. >> cannot wait for that. >> golden hour goes with the 49ers red and gold. >> golden hour.
