welcome back. an east bay fire department is encouraging more women to become firefighters. berkeley fire hosted a two day event showcasing what it takes to become a firefighter. participants learned cpr and how to use water hoses and climb up a ladder into a building. >> of course the fire service is a male dominated field and we want to be able to show that anybody can do this job. male, female, whatever and we want to give an opportunity to be able to have an avenue to explore what this job is. and john ramos will have more on the camp coming up at 6:00. time now for first alert meteorologist darren peck with what's ahead in the workweek. hey darren. >> brian i'm going to lead off with the warm-up that's coming. for the end of the week because that's the one thing that's going to be noticeably different and i'll do a little comparison juicing the virtual map and let's take a look at daytime highs on here for where you are going to be tomorrow. which is virtually identical
5:13 pm
the what you did today. so in a sense what we're doing here is we're taking a look at sunday's daytime highs. for a nice little review. but more specifically, monday's daytime highs. no real change here. you pick out your part of the day and doesn't really headache a whole lot. i'm going to switch the numbers now which are mostly low 70s and say good-bye to those and i'm going to bring in the friday numbers. and now you notice a bit of a warm-up and lot more low 80s on here. so for friday, the temperatures have gone up in some cases as much as ten degrees. let me get out of the way of that concord number so you can see you are going to 82 and you can see the number down there in san jose will make it up to 81. so all right that covers the temperature change. we don't really start to feel this though until wednesday. wednesday we begin the warm-up and think and friday are pretty much like this. for the next two days. three days, it's going to feel a lot like today and the wind has been a factor in that. these are wind gusting in general mt. mid 20s and a little bit of a windchill factor to this. the winds we
5:14 pm
looked at for tomorrow and tomorrow in the low 70s doesn't actually feel like that. because these are pretty gusty northerly wind and coming straight down the coast. they've got a nice little momentum push to them and it's -- giving it like a -- northerly windchill effect to it and making the numbers feel a little colder but what's going on with tend and why for the next three days we're still going to have it. you can see the winds today peaking around that 4:00 hour and as we advance this a little bit further you will see what happens once we go into each afternoon. the wind continue to peak right around this time of day. there's tomorrow the screen lights up again and 40-mile an hour gusts, that is monday. no difference. tuesday similar story right there in the afternoon. what's going on with this? we keep getting this series of weak systems to our north. not bringing us rain but they keep clipping by and giving us winds and we feel as it passes. one way to visualize the one that came through yesterday is to look at the water vapor. that was clearly a trough of low pressure and lock how dries out the atmosphere as it moves to the south. you had
5:15 pm
no idea there was anything here. except you felt the wind. and we look at the atmosphere this week now you can see it. two more coming like that. and if we go back to the forecast imagery watch what happens tomorrow. next one comes into the north and drops a little bit of rain occupy there. another one comes in on tuesday, it's the systems continue to clip by to our north, they keep pushing the winds through and there's tomorrow afternoon. northerly winds and then we'll take it ahead to tuesday, same story. so bottom line is, nothing is changing from now through tuesday as we keep doing that with the northerly systems but by wednesday, they're going to stop. the winds going to calm down. and the temperatures are going to go up and we're going to start working our way back up to those numbers we were looking at. so you saw the daytime highs we've already done that comparison. so let's look at the big picture now and see what the -- forecast model has to say about the chance of rain. because none of that did we talk about how any of that leads to chance of rain. and we're getting into that time of year now where we're --
5:16 pm
that's going to be far less common anyway. but looking at the long-range, we can see by the end of it, so going out about ten days, really well towards the end of the first week of may, maybe, system comes our way. but it's a little too far down the road to really start banking on the prospect of rain in the forecast at this point. instead, the focus really is breezy and cool the next few days and then quite the noticeable warm-up that will take us into the end of this coming week. look @ numbers back here as we look at the inland microclimates. 82 degrees on thursday and 81 on friday and yes not staying there long. cool back down a bit from another system that doesn't bring us rain but at least cools the temperatures back down. vern over to you. all right there, we have baseball up top and the giants 6-4 home stand. good enough to claim second in the nl west. hey, they finished up with the pirates today and hey if you are feeling it. cut it loose mccovey cove. to san francisco
