>> i can hear you clearly. yes. >> okay. i'm sorry. this has happened in your community. what can you tell us about what you know at this hour? >> well, look, i'm in light of what happened in monterey. part where 10 people have died. now we're looking at a potentially for that 3 critically injured. and so obviously this something that catastrophic. there full. it looks like the has turned himself in as it has been apprehended, will get more information. details and the senate hale county, sheriff's office. but this is a really, really tough day. also, the people on the coast. >> indeed, it it certainly must be sending chills down people's backs there. this is shocking for a community like that. are you? you're absolutely certain now that there's no threat to the

community at this point or what are blocked with law enforcement telling you? >> what will look? i mean, i think i'm right now law enforcement continuing monitor the situation. they'll be providing information forthcoming. and my understanding right now, it's the community is safe. but this be confirmed by the sheriff's office. >> supervisor, what your understanding about what happened to her hearing? 2 different crime scenes. what do you know? >> look, i i really don't the details will leave it up to the sheriff's office. but what i do know, it's there are many people's could change today. >> thoughts and prayers go those families and the friends of the victims as we get more our sheriff's office well versed in what happened. >> all right. david can appreciate your time tonight.

that is the supervisor with the san mateo county board of supervisors. david can. all right. joining us now is kron 4 sarah stinson. she is live for us on the scene with the very latest on the shooting. cerro. what are you learning tonight? >> well, we have a live interview here with woman who actually witness a lot of what i witnessed. but she saw before i did. this is katie mchugh. and she works right here. you came to just like everybody else get information at the staging area. you work in agriculture. tell me what you first saw. your car was right next to the person who is we saw was arrested, i yes, i was here on the scene waiting for a press conference and that the man parked right next to me. and i tried to get into my vehicle. but the sheriff come in become aware of the red suv and >> asked me get back from the scene and then they

>> took him down, took him into custody. you know your your car's right next to his and then all of a sudden you see they have their police, their heading towards the suv. and then you said once you got out of the way, they they started to draw their weapons. they did. they did. once effort are for that was on scene and i were cleared. they drew their weapons asked the suspect a get out of the vehicle. >> several times. but then did end up into being arrested calmly. it didn't end with any, you know, struggle they did. and amazing take down. it wasn't a chaotic shouting situation. it was. it surprisingly rational. speaking of surprising, you are looking for information about the shooting that we're hearing for people at least killed. >> and then right next to someone is being rested. we haven't been able to confirm if that's the man or the person they're looking for in the shooting. the shooter. what are your thoughts on the

i mean? >> it is is concerning. it's concerning how often this is happening it's especially concerning that he's come to our little the agricultural community, just like a lot of other working class communities have a lot of pressure on them. >> and it results in. >> it's like this. >> and so i was concerned about that night. them still concerned to see what would happen there. yeah, that's why you came here for information. but you are involved with the community. this happened about a mile from here. you the soil farm of some kind, you know, that area better than i do. tell me about it. so there's a i believe there at the soil farm. there was an incident. there is also an incident at a mushroom farm. that's the location on highway 92. i'm at a often called spanish and i and not exactly sure how that

all over town, to have yet to 2 different incident and then to have it come right here to the substation a lot. yeah, it's a lot when you know of this crime scene down the road you are concerned about who has been killed. where's the shooter and you come here to yet what becomes another crime scene. they have this yellow tape up. you are in the crimes that i was in the crime scene. at one point, i i passed the crime at spanish town on the way home into town heard more information about the incident. and that's why i was down here is because they passed the other crime scene to its in all incredibly close. and so we see the police surrounding this maroon suv. >> and they are also kept your car in this crime scene. by the way, katie just confirmed into our newsroom. 7 people killed by this. we knew for we just confirmed 7. i mean, chills just went down my back. this is the number of people are killed or scrolling. yeah,

i hoping for better news from that life light >> they yeah, they they worked hard to come out here try and do it. they could. it's it's always concerning out here when there's a health emergency, even of a small sort because we are isolated with everything going on with the roads and everything. it's isolated are ready for a single incident meant to have a mass casualty is just tragic. we had a mass shooting down in la and right away. we're now covering another mass shooting. >> in our own backyard and specifically your backyard. how are you feeling hearing? i % know you just found out just like the rest of us, but we were waiting for information. and this is the information now that we're here for. >> it is incredibly tragic to see this happening. more and more. it's incredibly hard to see it. this close to home. >> a a. >> it is. it is just it's just terrifying that this is happening at such a high rate and it doesn't take coming in

>> are getting new information the u.s. the san mateo county sheriffs where it is confirmed that they found in the 2 locations of 4 people dead at one location. 3 at another location. and we're also hearing that one more person is in critical condition at this hour. >> the suspect has been identified as well. 67 year-old zao schenley of half moon was taken into custody. they said at 4.40 today he was found in his vehicle in that parking lot. the vehicles is there in this shot across the way there. they say that he located in that vehicle, that suv in that substation parking lot by a sheriff's deputy who i recognized him saw him. what the exact specifics are on that. but it says that a deputy saw him in there and that he was taken into custody without incident and the weapon used was found in his

vehicle. >> so we're also being told that the sheriff is planning a press conference at the top of the hour. and we will certainly be bringing that to you live to get to all the latest details on this. but right now we're just trying to absorb. the fact first that there were 4 dead people in 2 locations. and now we understand there are 7 and another in critical condition. the suspect has been taken into custody. we know and name now we don't know what the motive is. and as a grant pointed out, they did find in his vehicle. they did find a gun. all right. what is to take a quick break, more coverage of this

>> welcome back to our continuing coverage of the mass shooting in half moon bay, where 7 people have been found dead. 2 separate locations and about 10 minutes ago, governor newsom tweeted governor newsom saying quote, at the hospital meeting with victims of a mass shooting. when i get pulled away to be briefed about another shooting this time in half moon bay tragedy upon tragedy. newsom was down in southern california where the monterey park mass shooting occurred over the weekend talking people involved in that tragedy. so that's what he's referring to when he says at the hospital meeting with victims. so governor newsom, they're weighing in on the situation as we're continuing to learn more about what's going on in half moon bay in a press conference with the sheriff is scheduled to begin around 6 o'clock tonight. all

right. joining us now live is kron 4 sarah stinson. she has the very latest on the shooting. is this sarah, what have you learned? >> well, we're waiting for that press conference, but we have been able to get some more information from the san mateo county sheriff's office. we now know 7 people killed in this shooting at 2 separate scenes. so the sheriff's office, they are busy and we're actually at another scene where they're concentrating efforts around a maroon suv. that is where they arrested a man. >> we haven't and we now know they they did arrest a man. his name is is out to lee. a 67 year-old half moon bay resident. and this is what they told us so far. this shooting happened at 2.22 this afternoon. the deputies they were sent to the to highway to an unincorporated part of the county. and that is where they found multiple victims. upon arrival. they found 4 shooting

victims and they were all dead with gunshot wounds. then they found a 5th person still alive, suffering from gunshot wounds. that person was taken to stanford medical center with life-threatening injuries. and that's when they were like we need to figure out who the shooter is. shortly after, though, they find 3 additional people shot and dead from shooter. so then they have a total of 7 people killed there, trying to figure out the motive of the shooting of trying to find the shooter. and that is when they arrested a man at 4.40. and that is also when i was right here in this parking lot waiting for a briefing from the sheriff's office about the shooting and they all right before my eyes arrested him and put cuffs on him and brought him into this substation. we've been waiting ever since then for more information. so this is the most we have gotten so far and they have told us they've identified the suspect as zao jun li. 67 year-old pulled from half moon bay. now we're

waiting for this press conference to happen right here in front of the substation. this is where that briefing was supposed to take place. >> at 4.40, right when they arrested a person. but of course, that didn't happen. had to push back. they're extremely busy. they had schools in the area shut down. businesses shut down because they didn't know where the shooter was and they arrested someone right in front of this sheriff's substation. the question remains and there's a lot of questions. but the question remains is the person who's rest in this parking lot? did they come into, you know? say it was mean were they coming in to turn themselves in and and is that in fact, the person they arrested? well, that is what we'll try and confirm. but vicki grand, i can tell you the community here is extremely rattled. of course, they're grateful to know that someone is in custody, but to learn that the death toll has gone up to 7. it is very, very

just horrific for the people who live in half moon bay usual, sleepy community. >> that's not used this type of crime. let alone a mass shooting back >> sarah. >> we also statement issued by an issue. this is her district in and she's saying, you know, have baseball left, tight-knit community. we all stand with them in the families of the victims during this dark hour. but to take a quick commercial break, we're coming up with more news. the breaking news in half moon bay right after this.

separate locations at one spot. they found 4 people who had died and one who had life threatening injuries. that person was taken to stanford medical center at another location. they found 3 people dead later in the afternoon. so 7 total dead and one suffering from life-threatening injuries. and again. >> we do not and it may take some time to as retain the the motive for a shooting like this. but this is normally anybody who's ever been half moon bay, you know that this is a very quiet community. this was an agricultural area where the 2 shootings took place and understandably, as a sarah stinson pointed out that this is a community that is very r1ttled. tonight. we spoke earlier with the director of holy family school and that little school, which is nearby one of the shooting locations. was it put on lockdown and parents had to

pick up their children tonight. very concerned. what what might have happened if if it even it happened at their school. this is that the state that we are in right now and it's the same knowing. >> state where there was a mass shooting over the weekend in monterey park, which is where governor newsom is today. that that he'll be in half moon bay in the coming days. certainly not what he wants to do, but the feds are also weighing in the white house press secretary karine john pierre is just tweeted this potus. the president has been briefed by the homeland security adviser on the mass shooting in san mateo county, california. he's asked federal law enforcement to provide any necessary assistance to the local authorities as more details become available. the president will be updated. so again, 7 people dead in half moon bay and another person is in the hospital tonight in critical condition. and we are awaiting a press conference by the san mateo county sheriff's department provide.
