i'm jayson. i'm living with hiv and i'm on cabenuva. it helps keep me undetectable. for adults who are undetectable, cabenuva is the only complete, long-acting hiv treatment you can get every other month. cabenuva is two injections, given by my healthcare provider, every other month. it's really nice not to have to rush home and take a daily hiv pill. don't receive cabenuva if you're allergic to its ingredients or if you taking certain medicines, which may interact with cabenuva. serious side effects include allergic reactions post-injection reactions, liver problems, and depression. if you have a rash and other allergic reaction symptoms, stop cabenuva and get medical help right away.
6:31 pm
tell your doctor if you have liver problems or mental health concerns, and if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or considering pregnancy. some of the most common side effects include injection-site reactions, fever, and tiredness. if you switch to cabenuva, attend all treatment appointments. ready to treat your hiv in a different way? ask your doctor about every-other-month cabenuva. every other month, and i'm good to go. >> our top story at 6.30, this 19 lives lost in just 3 days. the result of 3 deadly back-to-back mass shootings in california. it's one of the worst stretches of gun violence. california has

killed across the country in mass shootings. >> well, first of all, thank you very much to kron 4 for allowing us to have a space and acknowledging the pain that this is caused to the asian pacific islander community, especially during a time in which beer to celebrate the lunar new year. in fact, as the first state in the nation to recognize learn near as a holiday in the state of california. but unfortunately, this is the stark reality that we are dealt with. and of course, has propelled the asian pacific islander community front and center to help ensure that we now stand specifically to stopping the type of violent attacks and utilization of weapons of mass destruction, terrorizing our communities. >> a lot of the asian hate started during the whole expression is dealing with covid. >> and association with china and covid and all of that kind of started this ugly chain of

accountability and policies and keeping our community safe. we must not be numb to this each and every day. and again, the a pal community is equally vulnerable and susceptible to the attacks of weapons in our streets. >> we know holidays can be a stressful time because there are expectations, you know, among family members and friends to for certain kind of levels of you know, acceptance or help or need or whatever happens during holidays and and is it just bad coincidence that we have mass shootings on the eve of luna lunar new and both of them was asian-american victims. an asian american suspects. >> we can extract at making that reference to and in i received a number of inquiries. i myself will be and it's oakland's chinatown parade this weekend and many of asked is it going to be safe? but we must reassure members of the public that law

enforcement is diligent. we in the east in the bay area in california have many public officials who have taken the efforts to keeping our community safe by passing the most strict gun on the books. a california has the strictest gun laws on the books. and yes, it is an unfortunate reality that these instance still do occur. but that's why it's important that we elevate the sense of urgency on these issues and be interconnected as well. while also recognizing the impact of mental health challenges that this also makes to the stigma of the asian pacific islander community, one in which, of course, the community oftentimes likes to be independent, not talk about problems, not necessarily wanting to access public services. that's why it's important that government has. the services of compensation funds, access to mental health services in language and being responsive to our communities.
6:37 pm
very important that you're pointing that out so much in the news conference today was referencing the fact that, >> you know, these farm workers are going to need so much help and the days and weeks ahead. i i think it's generally assumed that in california that most of the farm workers are the latino community to find that is not just the latino community but also the asian american what are your about the level of attention paid to the for the situation of the farm workers after you know, attention over the mass shootings has begun to wane. will the farm workers still be able to be on the top of the agenda among those in power? >> but this is why we're having this conversation right now. the unfortunate reality is that even we talked about, the shootings in monterey park and not even having the in dry on publications. then you have a shooting in half moon bay. and of course, now we multiple reports of other shootings in other places in the country.
6:38 pm
so this is a regular occurrence. and by the way, only a problem systemic in the united states. no other country in the industrialized world has this problem is that specifically of the united states? so we must not be numb to this issue. we must elevate this and not just move on to the next problem. and remember that this is also a time to reflect on the victims having solidarity specifically to the services for the victims and their families alike, but also to provide an opportunity to check in on one another. if you know of an api co-worker, seek them out and ask if they need any help and just checking on them. perhaps there are companies also provide matching funds for those who wish to contribute to community-based organizations doing work to relieve the pain and suffering to those victims and families as well. >> assemblyman, we're out of time. but real quick before we go, you mentioned the open parade and of course, the san francisco chinese new year parade is the biggest one outside of asia. gets hundreds
6:39 pm
of thousands of people in san francisco. it is a lot of fun. are people going to be able to go have a good time and isn't it just doesn't seem appropriate to have a good time so soon after something like this. >> but can we? we are a resilient, a bay area strong and the asian pacific islander community equally knows that we can persevere. and this is an opportunity for us to do our part to supporting local small business owners. api business owners, minority business owners, especially as we come out of this pandemic and utilizing this opportunity to celebrate. but to reaffirm our commitment collectively and tackling these issues. >> assemblyman evan low, thank you for your time and your perspective on everything that's been going on the last few days. and we hope that this is the last time we have to have this kind of a conversation with you, but you and just, you know, that we get through the lunar new year. the rest of it with joy. thank you. coming up next on
