6:02 am
urging the district in the board to give them more time allowing maybe one to 2 years. but last night that request was denied. and as reena said, you know, officials say really it's because they're losing money. let's get into some video. so this meeting that we're talking about, it went on past 10 o'clock last night. the topic in vote was about closing bay farm school's 6th through 8th grade. the proposal coming from the superintendent arguing that the district is operating more schools and programs and other districts that are at same size ultimately losing money and has been for years. this came as a shock to parents who say they just learn out about this weeks ago and that they send their kids here specifically because it is smaller classes. and if it's going to close a need to be pushed back, adding that the california school board says facts need to be gathered by an independent committee, not by the board and that they want more public involvement along with other alternatives. now, officials from the district say parents may feel that this decision was sprung on them, but actually the discussion of closing the school 6.10, 6, use me 6th,
6:03 am
7006th and 8th grade classes have been going on since 2018. and that enrollment starts to drop around 6th grade here at the firm schools delaying the vote to cut the classes would not make much of a difference. but listen to what one teacher had to say about the entire decision. >> i sincerely hope that next time and that the is shown and that this avoidable regrettable occasion becomes the exception. i need people to know that i love where i work, that it is special and that i love my students and that although my words may not change, what happens tonight in an age of increasing at the i need my students to know that showing up matters. we asked our students to consider different perspectives and to problem solve and i hope next time the district practices what it preaches. >> so you can hear the passion there in her voice, you know, followed by. this was also parents, students. and just to give you some context when it comes to the amount of students here at this school, 6th and 7th and 8th grade.

6:06 am
threatened to withhold millions of federal dollars to san francisco because of the sanctuary. sanctuary city status. san francisco ended up winning back in 2020 in court. but in this particular case, if this passes james and reyna, it will be the second wrinkle as far as sanctuary status and not being extended because it's already on the books. if you're an undocumented immigrant and you are convicted within 7 years of a violent felony, you will be deported. so this is just one more layer. >> how bad is fentanyl within san francisco? according to investigators, the amount of fentanyl recovered just in our city alone last year. is that enough to kill every adult with in california? back to you. while frightening statistic there will. thanks for that update. it is 606, and in other news in the east bay, we've got. >> making oakland safer. a message from oakland mayor sheng tao. that's one of our primary goal. she announced newish initiatives that she
