area. good evening and thank you for joining us for kron. 4 news at 10. i'm dan thorn students at stanford university and uc berkeley have been camping for days calling on their schools to disclose the ties, 2 companies that but financially benefit israel kron four's jack moment live from stanford university tonight with more. jack. >> dan, that's right that the protests here at stanford has only been going on for about 48 hours or so. and already university officials say that they've sent letters to about 60 students, they say, are involved in these protests that saying that camping here on school grounds is against school policy and they could face suspension or a possible arrest. but still students here at stanford and that uc berkeley tell me they don't plan on stopping these protests anytime soon. >> white saturday afternoon on stanford's campus. it's a weekend that newly admitted students can come tour. it's also the second day that dozens of students are setting up tents and making a pull request of administration.

>> we want think that public support and the student support is crucial in being able pressure these institutions to do so. emily smith, a junior at stanford, says the big request is making the private college disclose any financial ties to companies financially support israel. protesters here say it's a tough ask. i think they are stubborn to be quite frank. i think they're actively trying to crack down on student letters were sent to students friday telling them that camping and stanford is illegal and they could face discipline or even arrest home. i think that's something students are taking day by day >> jen? >> across the bay, a couple 100 people rallying for a similar cause. music and flyers. the same use if the student at cal and says they have no signs stopping their protest any time i earlier uc berkeley sent kron 4 statement

saying in part we continue to carefully monitor the situation and to date there have been no disruptions of university operations. >> the school telling us they have not called the police yet, but are prepared to do so. yeah, if you are running anything, there's also that table up front. we have a ton of food, its let me also the crowd grows at stanford as a university police cruiser watches on. >> carlos ramirez is a sophomore and says they will keep camping here as long as more students show up. >> a lot of people can sign%up will be safe because and community and being and commune with each other. that's how we're keeping us safe. and now they know how there has been 0 protest as of yet at either stanford. >> nor uc berkeley. but for uc berkeley classes ended on friday. so we could potentially see those protests may be ending soon, whereas here at stanford, they're not on the semester system. they go by the quarter system and they have classes that go through june. so if that's just as much time as we could see students last with their protest and we'll send it back to you. >> all right, jack moment live from stanford university tonight. thank you. in the

meantime, pro-palestinian protesters at columbia university are occupying their encampment for a 10 day and they're refusing to leave until their demands are met. they want the school to also cut ties with israeli academic institutions and commit to a complete divestment of funds from entities connected to israel. last week, more than 100 protesters were arrested. and pro-israeli. demonstrators are also gathered outside columbia university gathering for the release of the hostages being held by hamas in gaza. this comes as a new hamas hostage video has been released showing keith siegel, an american israeli taken hostage more than 200 days ago. his family now begging for israel to do anything. it can to bring him home. for the very latest on all that's happening with the situation in gaza, the war between

israel and hamas and also what's been happening on college campuses all across the united states and right here in the bay area. you can go to our website kron 4 dot com. in the east bay. homeless man is arrested after attacking an elderly man and the piedmont police chi. the first attack happened friday at ace hardware on grand avenue in piedmont. police say they got a call about an elderly man getting hit from behind the suspect will be gomer ran away until police saw him next door. and police say gomer looked like he had taken some kind of drug and then attacked officers. gomer was pepper sprayed in tased but kept fighting and eventually broke into a home and threatened a resident. there he was then confronted by piedmont police chief jeremy bowers. gomer got into bauer's car and ours went into the other side to keep him from driving away in it. and that's when gunmen attacked the chief. he was later arrested under several charges. sausalito ferry remains closed this weekend in

april, 19th inspection found one of the pier pilings was damaged. ferry spokesperson said that they can only do their work during low tide. so these repairs could take some time. the golden gate ferry hopes to have the sausalito service back up and running by sometime next week. and while those repairs are being made, a transit bus to be taking passengers across the golden gate bridge. bart service is suspended this weekend between rockridge in oakland and the lafayette station. the transit agency is upgrading one of its tracks. free buses are available at impact stations. bart says to expect about a 20 minute delay. highway closures are continuing this weekend as well across the bay area. this is the 4th closure of the southbound lanes of 6 ad. it will be closed around the 5, 86, 80 connector in pleasanton and down to koopman road. caltrans says its reopening monday morning at 4, caltrans says to expect delays and detours throughout the weekend. and this is the

second closure in parts of the westbound lanes of highway 37 in blaine whole as well. they're also going to be reopening monday morning at 4. then next weekend, the 8 eastbound lanes of highway 37 will also be closed for repairs. all right. let's get you checked your 4 zone forecast tonight as we take a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. it was a nice breezy and sunny one across san francisco today, gayle ong joining us with a look now at what to expect a and that wind will stick around for the next few days. but we will be breezy mild pretty nice weather. >> you'll notice a chill in the coast, though. so here is the golden gate bridge. patchy fog out there tonight. temperatures right now we're in the 50's low 50's in san francisco and half moon bay and live for more. so it's pretty cool out there this time. and san jose close to the 60's as well as santa rosa. we learned that the same mild for overnight lows, though. so current wind speeds, you can really feel it over by the coast point raise reporting 30 miles an hour. 21 miles an hour that sea breeze

kicking up tonight in san francisco, relatively calm everywhere else. for now. but a future wind gusts is showing will be seeing another pop in the 20's tomorrow. so another breezy day for your sunday. so sunday morning, the coast already seeing numbers in the 20's while everyone else will remain relatively calm. but towards the afternoon that breeze will kick up again, possibly upwards of 30 miles an hour. so secure those news items very similar to what we saw today. and this looks like we'll have some wind with us until monday as tonight, though, overnight lows, pretty mild in the upper 40's low 50's a few clouds tonight with that breezy those breezy conditions. and a look ahead, though. we all warming up. so we're in the low 70's today. now it looks like we'll warming up to the mid 70's. even warmer towards the end of the week. so we'll be rebounding in the bay area. we'll see upper 60's the coast low 60's upper 50's. so seasonable weather. i want to come back. we are tracking some dangerous severe weather here. so there are tornado

watches across 5 states right now and the southern and central plains here and even a tornado warning in tulsa, oklahoma, at this hour, we'll take a closer look when i come back in a few minutes. >> all thanks a lot. today is national prescription drug. take back day. it's way to provide a safe and easy way for people to get rid of prescription drugs. there were drop-off sites in sausalito and daly city. the day is also used to educate people on the dangers of getting addicted to prescription drugs. a celebration of life is being planned for glide co-founder reverend cecil williams. it will be held on sunday. may 12th at one in the afternoon and glide church on ellis street here in san francisco. williams died monday at the age of 94. he was a civil rights and lgbtq activist and he was known for making everyone feel like family opening the church doors to all and helping to serve those in need in san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood. the

police are investigating after a woman was shot and killed near downtown. >> investigators say the shooting happened in the area of north 4th and east saint john streets last night. the victim was found laying in the street unconscious and not breathing. police say the shooter took off from the scene. this is the city's 12 homicide of the year. today marks one year since brown was killed outside of a walgreens in san francisco. this is security video from last april. the private security guard claims brown was shoplifting when he confronted him. michael earl wayne anthony shot brown as he was trying to leave the store for a second time. the da's office did not try anthony because he argued self-defense claiming brown allegedly threatened to stab him. brown was later found to be unarmed. walgreens, the guard and the company that employed him were fined. brown, a black

transgender man was on house at the time of his death and was a volunteer organizer for the young women's freedom center. the center is issuing a statement tonight writing in part, quote, bankers life was worth so much more. then what was taken for in the face of he was resilient and courageous he fought fearlessly for the rights and dignity of trans people. a proposal to equip new cars with speed safety systems in california is moving forward the bill was first introduced in january and would have mandated new cars made or sold in the state to have speed limiters. those systems would restrict vehicles from going more than 10 miles per hour over the speed limit after hearing feedback about the potential dangers of physical speed limiters. the bill was amended to only require visual and audio signals that alert drivers of excessive speed, the mandate would apply to half of new vehicles starting in 2029 and then all vehicles

by 2032, the bill passed the state senate transportation committee and now heads to the senate appropriations committee. new drone video is coming out of nebraska right now showing hundreds of homes and businesses in suburban omaha in ruins after a destructive tornado tore through the area. the tornado demolishing buildings, shutting trees and scattering debris as it plowed for miles along farmland and in the subdivisions, displacing residents and leaving them to pick up the pieces and it was just one of dozens that are hitting several midwestern and southern states. we've got kron 4. so gayle ong now joining us a little bit more on these major storms that are hitting the midwest scale. >> yeah, i'm dan. we're in the heart of tornado season. you can see right now this strong line of thunderstorms. there's actually at least efi states. you can see shaded in yellow here. those are tornado watches. and at this hour

there is a tornado warning in tulsa, oklahoma. so you can see these are the storm reports of the blue circles are hail the reds there. those are reports of tornadoes at last check. there is at least more than 75 reports of tornadoes last night. so very active out there. so if you know, anyone in this area in the southern and central plains here, you want to check on them and make sure they are in their safe place. end zones. and now we want to go to news nation's emily finn for the latest on the damage. >> residents of suburban omaha spending their saturday sifting through the rubble after a vicious tornado tore through the area friday. we just came many areas of the county which can clearly be considered in my opinion, a disaster scene. people gathering to survey their homes now reduced to piles of lumber, knocked over fences and trees stripped to their skeletal remains very unfortunate. many people have lost everything their homes. i've seen lawnmowers wrapped

around trees. i've seen bicycles wrapped around trees. i've seen steel sticking walls of homes. thankfully, no casualties, only minor injuries are reported. douglas county sheriff urging residents to secure their homes and stay home. please do not drive in impacted areas. not only are you causing traffic jams, but people can get hurt on the responses to these disaster areas. >> and they may require emergency services as well. and if the traffic is jammed and all the cars are parked in other side of the road, you could put them and and their loved ones at extreme risk. this tornado, one of more than 70 generated by this storm system. >> another one of which passed over eppley airfield on the eastern edge of omaha, destroying 4 hangar buildings with dozens of privately owned planes inside after hitting the airport. the storm moved into iowa, destroying at least 40 homes as the national

weather service works to assess the damage. millions of residents of the plain states are bracing themselves for more storms coming saturday. nws issuing a tornado warning for parts of western oklahoma and northwest texas calling the tornadoes large hail and wind gusts there, a particularly dangerous situation. >> and that was emily finn reporting for news nation for us tonight. and the severe weather threat is not over. this is the future cast model showing more storms are expected through sunday. so certainly thinking of the folks out there, some dangerous weather. meanwhile, it is quiet here in the bay area along the west coast. as you can see, we are dealing with some gusty conditions. pretty much wind advisory. wind warning was issued there in southern california and we saw a little bit of snow in the sierra and some rain a few days ago. but tonight we're going to see a few clouds, breezy conditions tomorrow, mostly sunny, mild with those gusty winds back in the forecast and then we have a

nice warming trend on the way for the middle the week. so here's the future cast model in our area. as you can notice. it's pretty quiet right? so sunday, you'll notice the clouds coming in in the morning along the coast and maybe some valley fog over by a san jose there. but then we are mostly sunny by the afternoon and it looks like monday that will be the case to. so just if you're in the coast, you may notice a chill in the air because of that sea breeze. but everywhere else we will be waking up to mild temperatures. upper 40's and low 50's for most of us starting your sunday morning and we will be warming up to the 70's a bit warmer than we were today. so 62 in san francisco, as you make your way to the south bay, 72 in san jose. 75 in concord and 74 in santa rosa. the expected forecast highs and, you know, be dealing with the winds. once again, it looks like this one will stick around until at least monday. so nice weather. you'll notice the chill by the coast, though, because of that wind. so here is the 7 day outlook here. some pretty

regulators say tesla's autopilot driving system has a critical safety gap linked to more than 460 crashes. >> and 13 of those were deadly after a nearly three-year investigation. the national highway traffic safety administration found tesla's autopilot design lacking and allowing for misuse and preventable accidents due to insufficient driver. attention week. driver engagement systems like autopilot remain active. despite distractions, the agency is concerned that after a voluntary recall covering 2 million tesla vehicles ongoing crashes suggest unresolved safety concerns. and huge news for

california ev drivers. tesla superchargers are opening to non-tesla drivers. governor newsom posting on social media saying this adds thousands of charges to california system. he says the state has over 100,000 chargers available to drivers. popular car rental company. hertz says it's losing millions of dollars after over investing in electric vehicles. the agency reports losing 195 million in its last quarter of which was a part of a 588 million dollar, total loss for the entire company. hertz plans to sell off a total of 30,000 dvd's later on this year. not popular in the rental world. all right. coming up here at 10 o'clock a's fans traveling to sacramento today to protest the team's move. plus, some light snow in tahoe this

thank you. >> i'm so grateful for today. and i was so lucky to be able to celebrate with my make-a-wish family. so what was your wish? >> what do you remember most about? >> so i got to meet tracy mcgrady from the houston rockets. he is a hall of fame basketball player in the nba. biggest thing i remember my take away from it was it really made me feel a sense of purpose like he really made me feel normal because at that time and are going through chemotherapy, you feel a sense of distance from everybody else. you feel you're being stared at are pointed at him knowing that he was really nice to any different kind of made me feel like anything's possible. and i kind of went back out into the world with a whole different mindset. i'm not going to anything stop me tracy mcgrady scored you know, i guess anybody would be caught me. >> feel

summertime. it's it's time for new woodward were open with the mountain, biking and everything. so it's really we've got a whole bunch of different things to do. always exciting up there. >> caltrans has construction projects on i-80 this weekend and they say to drive slowly and carefully if you're going to be traveling on those slick roads, let's get you a check of your 4 zone forecast. taking a live look right now at coit tower. nice. calm evening out there right now. yeah, long joining us with a look at what to expect a deal. >> we have nice weather in store for the next few days. we have a bit of a with some winds to deal with. let's go back to the sierra because it is nice that they at some snow up there the last few days right now tracking the upper 30's 50's in reno. a little warmer there in 40's in south lake tahoe. so it's all clear to drive out there. just like keep a lookout for some slick roads. but in the 50's this weekend and early next week, some outdoor activities and d- future cast model shows

statewide. we're mostly clear here for the next few days. just clouds along the coast and valleys. but then we clear out in the afternoon so sunday looks nice and clear to head out there and a statewide temperatures. we are on the cooler side right now in the 50's due to the seabreeze along the coast at sacramento city at 62 degrees. fresno, 67 thing, but we will be warming up from tomorrow. we'll see some 70's as you make your way inland. places like san jose. morgan hill. 72 is the forecast high for you. 75 in concord and 76 in antioch. 74 in santa rosa says you make your way towards the usual inland areas that are mostly the warmer areas. but along the coast 62 expected in san francisco. 58 along the beaches in half moon bay. so the other story is, of course, the we saw the winds yesterday and today this is 06:00am sunday. notice we do could see some numbers in the 20's along the coast and pacific us and san francisco santa rosa could

see 23 miles an hour starting the morning. but as you make your way inland, very calm there will be for fresh ing for you inland. but it will be chilly by the coast. let's take you to midmorning here. 09:00am also numbers in the 20's along the coast in did teens inland. and then usually the wind kicks up in the afternoon that sea breeze pop. so we could see close to numbers close to 30 along the coast. so just keep your jacket handy, secure those least items because it looks like the wind will be sticking around until at least monday. and showing in the long-range forecast. temperatures, though, we're pretty comfortable, though, 70's inland, as you can see for the next few days and sunny skies overnight, lows will quite mild as well in the 40's and 50's and then we'll start to see a cool starting thursday and next weekend we could see we'll be back in the upper 60's with partly cloudy skies. i don't see rain and those long range right now. but we do see some rain long, you know, maybe after that. but stay tuned back to dan. all

right, gail, thanks a lot. the person is recovering tonight after being shot in oakland. >> officers were alerted to the gunshots on drugs. dale street at around 2 o'clock this morning. they said a number of cars were struck by bullets, but no victims were found in the area. police say they were later notified of a walk- gunshot wound victim who took themselves to a hospital. that person is expected to survive. the investigation is ongoing. also in oakland, families of homicide victims and survivors of crime gathering for a healing vigil at lake merritt today. the group crime survivors for safety and justice hosting the event to commemorate national crime victims rights week lost loved ones were honored in a ceremony led by advocates calling for better safety strategies. >> things like world because that there was people that were supportive everything that i've been through at a

younger you know, maybe i probably would attempt to his work a little bit sooner. >> the group is calling on local leaders to invest in more crime prevention. a swat team in the east bank collects nearly a dozen guns after a husband threatens to kill his wife in their home. san ramon police say this began on friday afternoon at a house and canyon lakes drive. first responders were able to get the wife out of the home, but the has been barricaded himself inside the neighborhood. was that shut down for some time. the man eventually came out of the home and was arrested inside. police found rifles, shotguns and handguns. 11 in total. in the north bay police arrest 2 minors accused of carjacking and robbing a person in vallejo. police say the victim was sitting in his car near holiday and cassidy streets on tuesday night when a man walked up to his car with a weapon and demanded him to get out. the man then drove off in the dodge avenger. 2 days later, police spotted the stolen car. chase ended in

berkeley after the driver crashed into another vehicle. 2 miners were then seen running out across the highway. police arrested them. they were later booked into solano county, juvenile detention facility. another bird in the bay area has tested positive for west nile virus contra. costa county officials say the virus was found in a dead crow in concord earlier this month. it's the county's first case of the year. officials in alameda, san mateo and santa clara counties have also reported positive cases. and of course, to reduce the risk of spread. officials say people should dump standing wastewater are standing water rather because that can collect and toys and tools and pepper bowls. if they are left outside. tick season right around the corner and experts say it's time to start taking preventative measures. now takes can be found in grassy areas with shrubs or bush's and they can spread disease in both humans and pets. it's

really important to keep them off of you. medication is available to keep them away from dogs. but for people, experts say it's a as easy as a wardrobe change. >> if you want to be in areas with tall vegetation protective clothing camps, long sleeve shirts you couldn't even park your socks over your pans that that works. well and lighter colored clothing makes it a little bit easier to find those ticks and brush them off. >> yeah, simply check yourself, right. if a tick has bitten either you or your pet, the best way to get it off is using a pair of tweezers to grab the base of the tick and then pole straight back. there's less hustle and bustle in downtown san francisco these days. but one restaurant is not only surviving is thriving. and tonight's dine and dish vicki liviakis takes us to sam's grill. one of the oldest restaurants in the country. >> step into sam's grill in
