>> don't think cecil and conn. always together. >> tonight we honor the life of reverend cecil williams. a look at his celebration of life kron. 4 news at 10 starts right now. >> when fun time from the bay area's local news station. you're watching kron. 4 news. >> good evening and thank you for joining us tonight. i'm rob nesbitt. >> a 5 year-old boy has died after he drowned in the back of a home on bethel island just outside of oakley. this is according to the contra costa county sheriff's department who responded to the incident friday afternoon. neighbors tell us the boy was visiting family kron four's jack moment. reports. >> afternoon on friday contra costa county, first responders rushed to bethel island. reports of a 5 year-old drowned in bethel island. we had a young male drowned.

>> landing over there. john sullivan, a neighbor says each of these homes has a dock news hitting close to his home. he says this tragedy was praying for you know, it didn't work you're the rescuers did the best they could. neighbors tell us the boy was visiting relatives in the complex and fell off the dock in the back of the home. so neighbors say a drowning like what happened here on friday is really uncommon. some of them have been living here for years and say they've never seen anything like it. >> but they also said at the same time, water safety is at the top of mind spreading sand words of advice for people who have boats just like this one. i'm very sad about it. hearing about it that that breaks my heart. darlene weaver has lived here for 3 years and says she's never heard of a drowning in this community until now. i'm not blaming the parent, you shows just don't so quickly, right? so accidents happen. that's why they're caught this. lot these so important weaver says her

family are all experienced swimmers but make sure they all wear life vests. you know, we're in the get down to it without investment has more. boaters are expected in the months to come. >> weaver says water safety to her. this person, you know, the delta. it's serious, you know, is that current that under current, we've had lots of friends that are not lots but several friends. >> that have succumb. so we don't we won't get out there without a vest. >> on bethel island jacmel that kron 4 news. crews in placer county responding to reports of a woman would allegedly fell in the american river this weekend, according to state parks and recreation's authorities, we're able to find the woman in the water earlier this afternoon. unfortunately, officials say she died from her injuries. investigation remains ongoing. the body of a mother who went missing days ago has been recovered in the san joaquin river on thursday. stanislaw county deputies

responded to a call of several people in the water drowning in the san joaquin river at fishermans bend, 30 year-old brenda duran had jumped in the water to save her 11 year-old daughter who began to struggle in the water. her daughter who was able to get. out safely. but durant did not resurface saturday. volunteers helping with the search recovered her body in the river just outside of the town of newman. in the wake of this tragedy, this the stanislaw county sheriff's office is reminding people to always wear a life jacket. hundreds of people gathering in san francisco to celebrate the life of reverend cecil williams. reverend williams was known for his work as a civil rights and lgbtq activists. he died last month at the age of 94. he co-founded glide with his late wife and devoted his life to activism. kron four's sara stinson reports.

>> 800 people packed into the sanctuary at glide memorial church in san francisco sunday to honor the life of reverend cecil williams looked around at all the people here, overflow of people in the sanctuary. this is 11 feet right the he passed away on april 22nd in his home. his daughter kimberly shared what he was like in his final hours. i want everyone to know she was radiant and full of and like that day for more than 60 years, the reverend fought for civil rights and champion of the lgbtq+ community. whether that the people living on the street or notable politicians like congresswoman barbara lee. >> i sat right over there in 3rd probably the 3rd sing and every sunday. reverend williams helped me through some very challenging, very challenging personal times as well as former san francisco

mayor willie brown, vice president kamala harris and political activists, professor angela davis >> those who under until lgbt community. political activists like myself, williams first came to san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood in 1963. to help run glide, church and glide foundation. quickly after he made the brave decision to make the church inclusive to all. >> when he stood up for folks in the lgbtq community to get rid of the stigma. and this city that did not embrace this community williams and his late wife, janice america, tony, expanded glide to become what it is today. a safe haven providing food and services to thousands of people a year that the crack epidemic israel and streets.

look at the future cast model for tomorrow. you can see already socked in over by the coast here. that cloud cover hugging the coastline, even towards the bay oaklyn livermore. and that's going to be the case overnight into your early morning drive. this is 05:00am so you can deal with some valley fog here and the north bay, south bay and east bay. thanks. start to clear out by the late morning and the afternoon. but with the exception of the coast, snow looks like the coast will be noticeably cooler with the cloud cover during the day. looking ahead, we are holding on to the 80's so we will be warming up inland in the 80. still a 70's by the bay and more seasonable averages upper 50's 60's by the coast. when i come we will hold on to this warming trend will show that to you in the seven-day forecast. all right, bill, thank you. >> highway 37 is back open. parts of the eastbound lanes were shutdown this weekend due to a caltrans repaving project. the highway reopened more than 10 hours ahead of schedule. caltrans had predicted it opening before

>> now to a big story we're following as student rallies continue on campuses across the bay area today, jewish students organized a rally on stanford's campus. hundreds of people gathered for a rally that student organizers say was to express support for stanford's mission of diversity, free exchange of ideas and intellectual exploration. they said they feel pressured to keep their heads down while on campus and some even feel like they need to hide their fate. >> new video tonight of friday's berkeley law. graduation, a graduate waive the palestinian flag to cheers as she walked across the stage at the first greek theater. there was also protests on saturday. >> during the main graduation, the protesters have been camped out on campus now for nearly 3 weeks. today. israel

is remembering its fallen a minute long siren sounding across the country as people are observing memorial day. there. the somber annual commemoration has taken on added meaning in the aftermath of the october 7th attack in the war. that is sensing knighted. as israel intensifies military operations in northern gaza. the country is telling people to leave rafah. now, troops begin the operation overnight into the northern gaza city. israel trying to stop hamas from regrouping in the area that israel previously said it controlled for months. the u.s. has urged israel to do more to protect palestinian civilians as the country presses ahead, u.s. officials are continuing to warn against not going to be supporting and

admitted during the trial that he broke into the pelosi home with the intention of holding nancy pelosi hostage. in san francisco. firefighters put out flames at a hotel in the russian hill neighborhood a fire at the broadway hotel on polk street forced residents to evacuate just after 6 this morning. crews say several streets had to be shut down. they have since reopened. one person sustained a minor injury. firefighters were able to quickly put out the flames. no word yet on what caused the fire. now to our 4 zone forecast as we take a live look outside at the bay bridge. kron four's gayle ong joins us now with a look ahead. a >> hello, rob. cloudy out there tonight. so this is typical spring summer set up. we see. so this will hang on until of the morning. but i should clear out in the afternoon inland, at least so expect the clouds to hang out by the coast here. you can see it started here in the satellite and radar. but overall, we do have some quiet

weather over the next few days. it will be still nice and warm, not as toasty as it was last week in the 90's. phere's the future cast model. so an hour from now, you can notice the fog here, hugging the coastline, even parts of the east bay shoreline, oakland, even making its way down to fremont and then it will eventually head towards livermore and maybe see some coastal drizzle. just keep in mind, visibility may be tough in some places in our usual valleys for your 06:00am drive. things will clear out by the afternoon, as you can see with the exception of the coast here. so cloudy by the coast and that will know that i would really cool things down. so that's where we saw the first called out over by the coast inland. you'll start to see a cool down as well. so tuesday, we actually have a system heading our way and that will we will see a gradual cooling trend as we go over the next few days. so tomorrow's daytime highs notice we're in the 50's and san francisco, half moon bay upper 60's at around the east bay shoreline, places like oakland and hayward nevado

could be 70's and santa rosa and rose. your of i think 90 friday and upper 80's the last couple of days. and then the livermore down to the low 80. so these are more comfortable. temperatures you know you if you're sensitive to heat. so looks like will retreat from that 70's over in napa. and here's that 7 day outlook here. we will be holding on to the 80's will remain warm and so about we'll see a transition day thursday in land for you, folks who've dealing with the upper 80's and 90's. so we'll going down to the 70's inland. the bay and even coast. you'll notice more seasonable averages over by the low 60's and upper 50's. and you know it, we're really going hold on to this warming trend for a few days and looks like next week. we'll see it cool down to the 70's. so very, you know, comfortable spring-like temperatures. but here you see a cool down in the 70's. we can't be mad at right? yeah. you know, i know. i think that's a perfect. i like the 70's comfortable comfortable as the perfect word. thanks, gayle. sure. >> happening tomorrow,

california state parks a cal fire will begin prescribed burns and mount diablo state park will be active in the mitchell canyon area until june 7th. the state parks say prescribed burns depend on the weather and their conditions. as the temperatures start warming up. cal osha wants to help protect farm workers from heat illness. that's why the agency is partnering with organizations in the central valley to increase heat illness prevention farm workers received new u n 95 mask to protect themselves from valley fever and potential wildfire. smoke experts also warned about the dangers that can come with heat related illnesses. officials also shared farm worker rights and what necessities are needed while working in the heat. >> every year in california, workers have died from heat illness. so today's event is to try to prevent anybody from dying or getting sick from heat illness. >> farm workers who have more questions on heat illness prevention can contact their employer or cal osha. for the

first time in california history, chronic wasting disease or cwd is being detected in the states. deer population. that's according to california department of fish and wildlife. cwd is a fatal neurological disease known in animals like deer and elk. it can induce weight loss, lack of coordination and behavioral changes the disease was detected when 2 deer were tested on may 6 after being collected in madeira and inyo counties. cdc warns not to eat any meat that has been infected with cwd. still to come on kron, 4 news at 10. known east bay restaurant is thinking of closing. >> how break-ins are affecting the owner and staff?

>> the food and drug administration has issued a statement about a recall for an app used to operate insulin pumps. the mobile app is by tandem diabetes. the version of 2.7 or of to connect. the fda says a problem with the app could drain the insulin. pump battery causing it to shut down. the problem has led to more than 200 injuries and the fda says updating the app should fix the problem impacted customers have been notified. and for the first time since 1999 planet fitness is raising its basic level

comfortable temperatures. now we will be dealing with the fog here. so even tonight you can see already hugging the coastline. this is a 11:30pm. and then overnight we will be dealing with some valley fog here. so santa rosa petaluma and livermore and even san jose, the usual areas and napa. so keep that in mind for your morning. drive up by the late morning. things will start to mix out and inland. you will clear out. but over by the coast, we will be seeing cloudy skies and even parts of the east bay shoreline along the day and then towards the evening. so a very similar set up that we saw today very similar tuesday as well. so we will be waking up to some mild overnight lows here. so you'll be starting today in the upper 40's in santa rosa. napa nevado 50's and san francisco, san jose and livermore. so, you know, we don't see 30's so that it's pretty mild overnight. and tomorrow we will be warming up to the 60's actually over. vice has 63 in oakland, 67 in

that shows other people that lgbtq asian pacific islander. >> a woman to be in this job and it opens their doors. hopefully it gives a message to the younger generation api members. they. >> this is something you could do nationwide just over one percent of firefighters api. 17 1% of san francisco firefighters api. >> asians make up more than 37% of the population. why is it so important that we have a firefighting force that reflects its community? representation matters when people see themselves? >> in the people that are helping them in their worst day. they feel a sense of trust. when i go on calls, you filipino. we can have a conversation with somebody that speaks only to go for firefighter robert to representation also means being a role model when a little kid sees somebody that looks like them. >> well, i can do that.

>> in august, say led a mission to maui shortly after deadly wildfires torched the things that we complain about. >> it's it's miniscule. you know, these people lost their homes, lost their livelihood, their living out their cars. it was eye-opening. the team assisting local fire crews to stamp out a grass fire near a relief center distributing relief supplies to families in need in times of disaster. when people see that there's a bigger response that. if the firefighters coming over really helps people understand that there's love and support for them beyond there, their local community, the department plans to make another trip back this year. you know, it takes hard to be a firefighter. you give of yourself to your colleagues to your community. what are you proudest of when it comes to being firefighter in san francisco? what we're doing? we're accomplishing, you know, i see a bunch of chiefs now that that are asian and it's something that my son can see to for me being here. it gives my son. >> someone to look up to i love this out. it's very

cloud cover around the coast and parts of the bay. this is the view from the east bay hills here. so you want to travel as far as inland. a few want to try verde our night 3 other. so hopefully you see something. well, here are the overnight lows and you notice the cloud cover here, especially by the coast. but the temperatures are quite mild. upper 40's, low 50's. we don't see 30's on the map. so they'll be really nice morning and will be warming up to more cooler temperatures. you'll notice especially after that heat spike, we saw late last week friday we 90's, the first 90's of the season and san francisco was 80 degrees. and we haven't seen that since october. so here now, 56 degrees as the forecast high for tomorrow. 58 in half moon bay and a 66 in mill valley. low 70's for you in santa rosa. 82 in livermore and conquered will be to the mid 70's as well. 81 in morgan hill and 75 for you in san jose. so you much cooler than the last couple of days and we
