can see it here tops the buildings, a little cut off. and i think it may stick around for a while. john, when you say yeah, it's going to be several more hours. you're exactly right. we're back to that a normal forecast that a lot of us see that. >> involves a little may gray from time to time, especially along the bay shore and the coast where we're sitting on east bay hills. you can see how fogged in it is right now, ocean air and marine layer right into the bay. now north bay in particular, seeing some dense foggy conditions, sunshine for this to inland. so if you are out in our inland areas, you're getting some sun. it will take until late morning for the fog to burn off and another dose of it tomorrow morning winds are pushing from the coast to our inland areas. so this is going to help to moderate temperatures a little bit. nothing major, no huge changes going on in this forecast. daytime highs are going to remain right on par with your seasonal averages. oakland, alameda and conquered egypt. 52 right now. and later today,

most of you will be in the 70's for your daytime highs. doesn't sound too bad at we'll be breaking down everything else you got to know for this week's forecast. still to come, michael thomas information this morning. how are the roads? >> hey, good morning, everyone. thanks, john. taking a look at the roads. things look good for the most part. let's take a look at some bridges this morning. here's a live look at the bay bridge. you can see it's a 60 minute commute from the maze over to fremont street. those metering lights are on. and as john said, you can see that fog there. taking a live look at the san mateo bridge, 13 minute commute there to get over that. a live look at the richmond. sandra fell bridge 7 minutes. no delays there. and lastly, that golden gate bridge coming in at a 19 minute commute in the next 15 minutes or so. we'll check in with bart. there's been some delays there. still have those details coming up around 6.15, or so. but for now, we'll send you over to james and darya. thank you, michael 602. and today a chapter begins in the oakland police department floyd mitchell now taking over as the department's new police chief with kron four's will tran in oakland now with the story.

>> oakland's new police chief will begin the job in just a few hours from now. this will be his first monday. he takes over a department in battle with the public perception that crime is out of control in oakland, despite crime rates being down this time compared to the same time last year. but robberies are still sky high. floyd mitchell comes to oakland from lubbock, texas, where he was also police chief. actually started the job on saturday, but this will be his first week day on the job and he will make remarks at around 10, 15 this morning before officially taking over the reins on his first monday for department that has not have a police chief since last february when mayor sheng thao fire lower on armstrong. armstrong is suing the city for wrongful termination. we will bring you his remarks a little bit later this morning. back to you. all right, thanks. we'll check back with him throughout the morning at 603. >> and in the east bay, a

family is mourning their 5 year-old boy drowned over the weekend happened in the back of a home on bethel island crop or jack moment has the story. >> across the county, first responders rushed to bethel island, reports of a 5 year-old drowned in bethel island. we had a young male drowned. >> landing over there. john sullivan, a neighbor says each of these homes has a dock news hitting close to his home. he says this tragedy was praying for you know, it didn't work you're the rescuers did the best they could. neighbors tell us the boy was visiting relatives in the complex and fell off the dock in the back of the home. so neighbors say a drowning is really uncommon. some of them have been living here for years and say they've never seen anything like it. >> but they also said at the same time, water safety is at the top of mind spreading sand words of advice for people who have boats just like this one. i'm very sad about it. hearing about it that that breaks my darlene weaver has lived here

for 3 years and says she's never heard of a drowning in this community until now. i'm not blaming the parent, you shows just don't it's so quickly, right? so accidents happen. that's why they're caught in. this he is so important. weaver says her family are all experienced swimmers but make sure they all wear life vests. you know, we're in the get down here without investment has more. boaters are expected in the months to come. >> weaver says water safety to her. his personal, you know, the delta. it's serious, you know, is that current th under current, we've had lots of friends that are not lots but several friends. >> that have succumb. so we don't we won't get out there without a vest. >> on bethel island, shock moment. kron 4 news. >> 605. the time one person was injured in a fire at a hotel in san francisco's russian hill neighborhood. it happened at the broadway hotel on polk street. this was sunday morning. the fire

forced residents to evacuate for a time. firefighters were able do that quickly put out those flames. one victim suffered minor injuries. no word yet on what caused that fire. in the east bay. a lithium battery. well, several of them is a matter of fact, as you can see here in a storage container caught fire at the port of oakland. this is video from the citizen app showing a large amount of black smoke hovering that portion of the san francisco bay yesterday afternoon, crews were able to get that fire under control. they say a short time later. >> time now is 605. and student rallies continue on college campuses around the bay jewish students ragged organized this rally on stanford's campus yesterday. they say they want to express their support for stanford's mission of diversity. some students say they feel pressured to keep quiet and they can't speak out freely about world events and some even feel like they need to hide their faith because of all that's going on in the middle east. meantime, a

graduate, as you can see, your waived the palestinian flag as she walked across the stage in uc berkeley's law graduation ceremony that happened over the weekend. there were protests on saturday as well during the main graduation. they're at cal as well. protesters have been camped out on campus for about 3 weeks now. >> well, a new video shows the moments the teenagers from the east bay were shot at while they were packed practicing. they're participating in a sports competition. this happened during a rowing race in west sacramento. so someone apparently fired at least 3 shots that landed near that. you can see the water there behind them sort of splash up as the bullets hit the water. we're going to do it. we're going to loop this video again. so you can take a look. that bullet passing just over the heads of the rowers, the father of one of those 15 year-old rowers. again, watch

the property showing breaking in. then here's the body camera footage of police showing the pap. and paul pelosi fighting over that hammer. and then moments later, the paps truck. paul with that hammer. again as we get more this friday, we'll keep you updated on what sentence he receives. >> it's 608, and san mateo county officials are applauding a block tnt's plan to end landline service in that area. on friday, the cpu see administrative law judge rejected 18 t's proposal. they wanted to withdraw as a carrier, which means that they would have to continue to have basic access to basic phone service for anybody who request the service in the area. but overall they would remove the service, the cpu c still has to vote on whether to accept the judge's decision on this next month. >> highway 37 is back open. parts of the eastbound lanes were shut down over the

weekend because caltrans was doing some repaving. >> the highway reopened 10 hours ahead of schedule and the officials had predicted it would as well. so they thought was going to happen but all up and all freshly paved. all right. >> happening today, california state parks and cal fire will begin prescribed burns out about the apple state park. they're going to be active in the mitchell canyon area until june 7th. the state park says that prescribed burns like this depend on the weather and the conditions of the air quality and the like the winds, all of that. so all that's going to be factored in. >> san francisco city leaders celebrating the opening of a new public park. that was the ribbon cutting ceremony for your bubbling to island there and they panorama park, which is on the island's highest point. look at those views. now. beautiful right? that they can see the skyline there. san francisco mayor

should be for this time of year 50's and 60's right along the coast and then 60's to 70's along the bay shore today, some of our inland areas will barely rise into the low 80's such as san jose in campbell, each hitting right at 80 or 81 degrees east bay temperatures mostly in the 70's with hayward at 71 oakland up to richmond in the upper 60's north bay. temperatures 70's to low to mid 80's for you back. a bill or warmest spot today. 84 degrees. a look ahead. shows temperatures tomorrow into wednesday and thursday remaining in the 80's inland with 70's consistently along the bay shore. some morning fog and some afternoon sunshine. thanks, jeff. good morning, everyone. 6.17, is your time. taking a look right now at our transportation over on. but you can see there are some delays as a 20 minute delay on various a line right now, its berryessa richmond and daly city. >> it's because they're dealing with some technical difficulty issues. they're hoping to get that fixed. but right now it's only a 20 minute delay. so keep that in

mind. if you are utilizing bart taking a look at some drive times livermore to dublin. 11 minutes, dublin to fremont 15 minutes. san leandro to milpitas. 25 minutes peters to sunnyvale. 7 minutes. a look right now at antioch to concord drive. it's a 24 minute commute there. you can see not too bad this morning. westbound 80 crockett to the maze. it's a 20 minute commute which is good for this hour and a live look at the bay bridge. it is already stop and go traffic there. those metering lights or on. it's 17 minutes to get across over into the city. and we will take a look at southbound 8.80, right now, oakland to highway 38 is a 10 minute commute. there. checking in a little bit more southbound. you can see southbound 6.80, dublin to fremont. it is only a 15 minute commute. i will send it back to to the desk. >> thank you, michael. 6.19, in placer county. a woman there was a water rescue attempt. it they dn't save or this happened sunday afternoon in the american river. the authorities were

able to find her. they weren't able to save her and we're not sure how she went under the water. they're still investigating. the body of a mother who was reported missing for days has been discovered in the san joaquin river. stanislaw county deputies responded to the call on thursday. there was a call that several people gone under the san joaquin river. they were drowning. this is near fisherman's ben, 30 year-old brenda during and jumped in to try to save her 11 year-old daughter one of those people who fell in and the daughter was able to get out of the water safely. but the mom didn't resurface. and on saturday, volunteers went out and they were able to recover her body just outside of the town of newman. and in the wake of this tragedy, officials are reminding everyone wear a life jacket when you are boating river near the water, anything.

6.20, is the time and as temperatures start warming up, cal osha wants to protect farm workers from heat illness. the agency is partnering with organizations right now in the central valley to help ness prevention >> from workers receive new and 95 masks to try to protect themselves from valley fever and potential wildfire smoke officials also shared farm worker rights and what necessities are needed while working out in the hot sun. >> every year in california, workers have died from heat illness. so today's event is to try to prevent anybody from dying or getting sick from heat illness. >> farm workers who have more questions can contact their employer or cal osha. >> more than 2000 pot plants and 100 pounds of marijuana were seized property at santa clara county. you can see it here. this raid carried out early last week. a special unit with the santa clara county sheriff's office was focused on this operation investigating for months and in total, 4 people were arrested and 2 guns recovered.

we are back at 6.24. and today the san francisco public library kicks off a series of events for san francisco tech week. >> it all kicks off at 10, 30 this morning. they have an event called digital passport. bingo. that's going to be on the 5th floor learning studio at 01:00pm today. they'll have a seminar called detecting ai-generated content and then at 02:00pm there's going to be a photo walk in golden gate park held in cantonese and

mandarin that will be the san francisco botanical gardens and then finally at 4 this program called zoom basics. that will be back at the library on the 5th floor, computer training center. >> and study says california's economy is leaving young people behind that. the public policy institute of california did a study and found that in 2022 more than one in 10 californians between 16 and 24 years old. we're not in school, not working and not looking for a job. the majority of those were young men. this state has spent more than 3 billion dollars on career education programs in the high schools in 2015 or since 2015 study says it's actually residential segregation them. a difficult for young people to access opportunities and then it doesn't help that the cost of college keeps going up and statewide. the state is expanding on dual enrollment programs that let high school students take college classes to make college more attainable.

>> 6.29 right now. checking out the weather for there's not nothing see here move along he literally in some places for the kind of pick this john, yet not a love to see. definitely a good way to put it this morning because we are just completely socked in for a lot of the bay area. it is a return to form for normal mayweather here in the bay. and that means a little bit of views that looks like this. the east bay hills right now completely fogged in. you can see much of anything down below and we will be looking at a slow burn off as far as the so expected through late morning for the bayshore itself and a little bit socked in all the way out to the coastline through the afternoon. now winds are pushing towards the coast. this is going to have a moderating effect on our temperatures. daytime highs today will be fairly comfortable right now. we're actually fairly mild, too, with a lot of 50's on the map.

you, michael. >> alright, 6.31, is the time and hundreds of people gathered in san francisco over the weekend to celebrate the life and legacy of reverend cecil williams. obviously so well known for his work as a civil rights activists and lgbtq activists as well. >> and he died last month at the age of 94. he co-founded glide memorial with his late wife and devoted his life to activism with kron four's. sara stinson now with the look back. >> 800 people packed into the sanctuary at glide memorial church in san francisco sunday to honor the life of reverend cecil williams looked around at all the people here, overflow people, the sanctuary. this 11 feet right the people he passed away on april 22nd in his home. his daughter kimberly shared what he was like in his final hours. i want everyone to know she was radiant and full of and like that day for more

than 60 years, the reverend fought for civil rights and champion of the lgbtq+ community. whether that the people living on the street or notable politicians like congresswoman barbara lee. >> right over there in 3rd probably the 3rd sing and every sunday. reverend williams helped me through some very challenging, very challenging personal as well as former san francisco mayor willie brown, vice president kamala harris and political activists, professor angela davis. >> who under the lgbt community. political activists like myself, williams first came to san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood in 1963. to help run glide, church and glide foundation. quickly after he made the brave decision to make the church inclusive to all.

>> when he stood up for folks in the lgbtq community to get rid of the stigma. and this city that did not embrace this community williams and his late wife, janice america, tony, expanded glide to become what it is today. a safe haven providing food and services to thousands of people a year that the crack epidemic israel and the streets. >> you know, engaging the public 6 you know, hiv he never shied away from those new issue he wasn't going to >> the celebration of life for williams was filled with music, love, laughter and tears. he put people on my past. >> to show me the way. i have to be out on the streets. that was a product of my environment. >> san francisco mayor london breed recalled growing up in the city and being able to lean on the reverend. >> and to see him and to look.

put out a fire here at a church in santa clara on thursday. this was at mark's episcopal church on the property there. you can see huge. my a lot of smoke. and you could see this from several blocks away. mainly it seemed to be in the central courtyard and then it grew and spread to the back of the building. there crews were able to put it out and they were able to protect the nearby buildings because, you know, the embers were flying all over the place and nobody was hurt. take a look at what in marin county, a driver crashed their car right into an auto repair shop. so i guess they can leave it there. this evidence, nfl jr auto body saturday morning. the driver may have suffered from a medical emergency and launch the car right there into the building. taken to a local hospital are not sure of their condition. >> will 2 people who claim they were interested in buying used pick-up truck are now facing several gun and drug charges. this happened in livermore. police say he

received a call from a woman who had posted her truck for sale and after midnight on wednesday, she called police because she was a little concerned about a prospective buyer who was looking at her vehicle. they wanted to view her pickup that late at night when police arrived to find a potential buyer and another person sitting in their car park near the woman's home. officers spoke to the 2 people in the car and then searched the vehicle and that's what led them to find inside math, heroin and that gun you see on screen, both men were from oakland taken into custody. alameda county district attorney pamela price now taking on major car insurance companies. she's suing both progressive and usa a and a few others to. now, according to the lawsuit, the insurance companies have been working with software developers to undervalue. total cars totaled cars. da price filed a 69 page civil complaint that accuses the companies of using special software that's meant to lowball settlement offers to

>> good morning. and happy mother's day you yesterday. you aria and i'm james. yeah, we've got a. >> a lot to get to on the news front will be there shortly. we've got a lot of fog, though, out there this morning on yeah. but the weekend delivered which great. and i don't know when we'll see the sun again, john. right. the weekend was so colorful in so many ways that you would have never expected. and now we're looking at the great again. so hey, that's pretty much business as usual for the bay area as we make a return to the workweek. your view outside a half moon bay shows you a lot of that overcast overh ad. of course, that's the expected up the coastline. but you're also seeing that same grey about the bay shore up in the north bay and even in parts of some of our inland areas out towards the carquinez. we will see that fog burning off inshore order and sunshine by late morning before another push of fog inland into tomorrow morning. as this onshore breeze continues, that is going help to moderate temperatures a little bit making for a comfortable day ahead of us.
