footage from the city which has been designated capital of islamic state. japanese coral gathers are complaining about the serious damage suspected by chinese poachers. since september, many boats have been spotted near the japanese islands in the pacific. cooperate representative reported damage to the government on thursday. he has been gathering coral for decades. >> translator: poachers root out the coral leaving nothing behind in the traditional local beds. i don't know when we can start gathering coral like before. >> he said a traditional coral bed is being destroyed by the big coral nets. poachers are expected of using these. these are far larger than

next week between the two country leaders. this is the head of japan national security council secretary yacht. he left thursday morning for beijing. he is expected to meet with top chinese government officials. they'll discuss a possible summit between japanese prime minister shinzo abe and chinese president kping ping. this would be the first for the leaders. they're hoping to hold it before monday in beijing. chinese officials have said japan must recognize there's an issue of sovereignty of islands in the east china sea. japan controls the islands, china and taiwan claim them. they maintain they're part of japan's land. there's no issue to be resolved.

china wants abe to state clearly he won't make visits to the shrine that honors japan's war dead. those remembered include leaders convicted of war crimes after world war ii. chinese officials have not yet said whether they'll agree to hold a summit. prime minister abe says he will compile a new national strategy on dementia. it would promote research and prevention and is treatment of the disease. abe was speaking at the international conference in tokyo. he said it is a global challenge to create a society in which people with dementia can live without worry. >> translator: japan should present a model of society wide efforts as a its population is rapidly aging. >> abe said he will instruct health labor and welfare

minister to draw up a new strategy that would speed up measures to tackle dementia. he suggest had the it will include the creation of a system to gather and analyze information on dementia sufferers across the country. a woman from western japan was diagnosed with dementia seven years ago. she called for understanding and support for people with the condition. >> translator: some people are prejudice that those diagnosed with dementia can't make judgments or do anything. such prejudice makes them lose their will to live and isolates them and their families from society. i call on people in all fields to view this problem as their own and work together. >> participants are discussing how countries can cooperate to prevent dementia and care more

overall view of the economy. they revised the assessment last month. investors are cautiously waiting for outcome of the central bank policy meeting. major benchmarks are trading in negative territory after making pretty big gains previous day. london down two tenths of a percent. gains for the frankfurt market. in asia, investors were reluctant to trade. nikkei snapped a five day winning streak due in part to profit taking. moving on to currencies. euro edging higher against the green back. many market players expect they will not produce new stimulus measures at today's meeting. dollar is unchange ed from the yen levels we saw in late asian trading hours. right now 114.61 after having reached 115 level for the first

time in seven years. economists with daiichi research institute gave us his view on direction of the yen. he said the currency will continue to weaken even though financial leaders don't want that to happen. he said the decline of yen will help export related firms, but he warned there will be side effects. >> translator: if crude oil prices rise and yen continues to fall, import costs for fuel will go up significantly. in that case, import prices for raw materials will also rise and that will cause bad inflation. >> he said it's important consumers feel their pay will go up, and they'll have more job opportunities. executives at mcdonald's japan are struggling from the fallout. revolutions that a chinese firm was # applying expired meat put

a can dent in their sales. revenue came to $1.5 billion, down 12% in yen terms from last year. executives say over the nine month period, they made a net loss of $65 million. that's a turn around from last year they made a profit. the cost of extra inspections also took a toll. the executives project they'll make a net loss of nearly $150 million for the year. they say they'll give outlets a facelift and include more low cost options on the menu to try to win back customers. business people in china are seeing weaker exports as labor costs are rising. some want to shift the economic direction toward it related businesses. one of the people is wren who's voice carries quite a bit of weight in government policy making. he is chairman and ceo of the china's biggest software

pro russian separatists sunday held elections in parts of donetsk and luhansk regions. in response, the ukrainian president poroshenko decided to deploy more troops to the east. he has decided to corrupt the law that expand add self-government in rebel controlled areas. in a joint statement on wednesday, separatist leaders said this seriously damages the peace deal and hinted they might resume full military action. sporadic fighting continues between government troops and separatists at airport in donetsk and suburbs in the hub of mariupol. on wednesday, two teens were killed when a shell hit the school playground near the donetsk airport. a tropical storm is affecting the southern islands

of japan. our meteorologist joins us for the details. >> we have been watching a severe tropical a storm named nuri. this is starting to move away from the southern islands so conditions are slightly improving. we're seeing rough sea conditions along with gusty conditions the next couple of hours. this is the forecast track. it is expected to move toward the northeast moving away from mainland japan. conditions will approve across the country as well. sunny weather expected as we go to friday in many parts of the region. it's not the case this region because we see precipitation and colder than average temperatures. even snowfall in low lying areas. you'll experience parts of winter. i want to take you to hawaii. molten lava is continuing to be

a threat to people of pahoa. we have pictures from the island. advancing lava has remained stationary. the flow is continuing to expand. the lava is coming from the volucano erupting since 1983. a scary site up there. across the americas, lots of heavy rain continuing over the southern areas in the northeast and u.s. due to a big low pressure system. as the system moves towards the east, rain will expand into the north eastern u.s. as we go to friday. gusty conditions are expected as well. back behind it, cold air is flowing in lowering temperatures. temperatures are going to be in the single digits in places like chicago and toronto. the cold air will continue to flow into the south coast as we go to saturday.

new york area highs 14 on thursday but drop to single digits on saturday in washington d.c. and philadelphia. 10 degrees difference between thursday and saturday. be prepared for change in weather. now finally over europe, lots of heavy rain has been affecting much of northern italy. it has cost this site in italy wednesday torrential rains, as much as 270 millimeters in just three hours. it caused widespread flooding. thousands are forced to flee their homes and several were rescued by helicopter. unfortunately more heavy rain is expected as we go to the weekend the if your in northern italy and surrounding areas. on top of flooding rains, there's a possibility of tornados as well as large hail. in fact a couple of tornados were spotted in italy on wednesday. meanwhile, wet and windy conditions for british islands.
