baltimore. >> from the cities to your counties, now is complete coverage with wjz, maryland's news station. >> mystery, gunned down weeks before becoming a father. reaction from a neighborhood on edge. good evening everyone. a man shot and killed right outside of his own home in the first murder of the year. his killers are still on the loose. wjz is live tonight in a heartbroken neighborhood. >> absolutely, adam. this man was weeks away from becoming a father. crime is very rare in his neighborhood, let alone something so violent. 36-year-old gregory often talked about how excited he was with neighbors that he was going to become a father.

he was due to have a baby in just a few weeks, but he was gunned outside of his home in laural. lives a couple of doors away. >> we moved at the same time in 2004 and he just was a really great guy, good couple. >> reporter: pushed sears who was in the driveway. police believe suspects were trying to rob sears when it turned into a deadly attack. they don't know if he knew sears or followed him home. >> they said it happened right here. we woke up scared and didn't know what was going on. >> reporter: the gunshot jolted them awake in more ways than one. >> to know that, you know, something like that happened in your neighborhood, it's definitely, you know,

disturbing or uncomfortable. >> reporter: as families try to regain a sense of peace and loved ones try to make sense of the violence, a makeshift memorial is growing in the very spot he was killed and robbed of his life. meanwhile, police are still looking for a killer. metro is passing out these flyers offering $2000 for good information. police have no suspects tonight, but they are saturating the area with patrol as the investigation continues. eyewitness news. >> hard to believe. four sears finalized. we'll keep you posted. four men locked you have tonight after a bar fight. the men are accused. he later died from his injuries. michael grimes, john, and two sons jonathan roebee.

all four are being held without bond. a u.s. man from maryland dies serving his country. 24-year-old matthew of westminster died in afghanistan. he was assigned to an air force base in colorado. police are looking for a driver in a deadly hit and run. both died from their injuries. police tonight are searching for a gray compact car in connection with that crime. the nation's first primary is on the way. the gop candidate debate was just finished and was heated. with manchester, new hampshire with the latest. >> reporter: the gop candidates showed up ready to spar.

jared has been diagnosed of a mental illness. mistakenly deported to columbia. she gave a fake name and age when she was arrested in houston in april. she hasn't been seen since she "ran away" last year. >> we're happy to have her home and have her back. >> the family is planning to file a lawsuit against the u.s. government for making the mistake. maryland drivers could experience even more pain at the pump. some protesters want to put the brakes on a proposed increase in the state's gas tax. >> legislature is preparing to raise the gas tax in maryland by 15 cents a gallon. >> reporter: frustrated here in maryland of a proposal to raise the gas tax, occupying this gas

i think some of you know what i'm talking about. record is 34 degrees, so way above average. warm night outside. the winds have turned out to the northwest because actually a cold front has moved to this evening. there's not a whole lot to this, air is going to be cooler than the last few days. even at this hour, and this is january, remember, nighttime hours in january, it is 30 degrees in min yap minneapolis, 28 in chicago. not moving our way for the next couple of days. tonight and tomorrow, same and then front moving our way monday. for most of us, we're just going to see clouds for it. but in the south, showers, particularly in d.c. and parts

of the eastern shore. that gets out of here by tuesday and behind it, temperatures go right back up into the 50s. there are times by the second half of next week, we will see a change to colder air. if you like the warm air, enjoy this now. the waters, we have advisories. winds back off in the northwest. only five to ten knots tomorrow. we are going down into the 30s and then tomorrow, 49 degrees. this is our cooler air. still close to 50. we're back up into the 50s. but this coming our way thursday into friday is going to bring much colder air as we head into next weekend. so these are really going to change by the time we hit saturday. >> is it going to eventually feel like winter? >> maybe. all right, sports. who's going home?
