right now at 6:00, in san francisco, a deadly shooting at an entrance at powell street b.a.r.t. station. we'll update you on the possible leads for police at this hour. a's fans hardly ready to play ball when it comes to opening night. their message to ownership from the parking lot and the piece of broadcasting history now headed to the hall of fame. i was bracing myself for the journey that i was about to embark on and what it all meant. >> plus, traveling for ivf treatment. the sit-down with a local couple who left the country seeking more affordable options to build their family. this is "today in the bay." good morning to you on this good friday. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm kris sanchez.

laura garcia is off this morning. before we get to our headlines, the beehive is buzzing over beyonce's new album that dropped at midnight, cowboy carter, following some single releases. fans giving it the yeehaw. >> more rain. >> we are going to have a soggy weekend, it's easter weekend, and we're going to have some gusty winds. let's take a live view at the golden gate bridge. a little bit of some wet roads to get your friday going. we are also going to see the rain picking up as we go throughout the day, and also gusty winds. we're going to be watching for a chance of thunderstorms, not only today, but tomorrow as well, as the spotty showers continue, at least into sunday. but then next week it's going to be drying out and warming up.

we have so many changes coming in. and here is the system that's arriving right now, quite a few lightning strikes farther to the north. we'll be tracking it all with stormranger as the storm system continues to near the bay area, as it brings very unsettled and cold weather. mike, you were tracking one trouble spot. >> most of the bay shows green sensors. i should show you the peninsula as well. all green right now. great lighter traffic, good friday, so some folks not reporting for work because they have others to report to on good friday. we're looking toward the hazard, the one slow spot. i updated chp's report, they are still requesting the sweeper for nails. 7 inches long nails scattered across the roadway and there are a number of vehicles on the shoulder. once you pass by north flynn, everything is clear. a little build for vasco and clear at dublin interchange, no problems for contra costa county. developing in san francisco, a deadly shooting just outside

the powell street b.a.r.t. station is under investigation. it happened last night around 9:30 in hallidie plaza. first responders found one victim with a gunshot wound who died at the scene, and at least two people are detained in connection with the shooting. but so far, we don't know what the motive might be. as soon as we get more information, we'll bring you those updates. and happening today, a man accused of a deadly father's day shooting in richmond is due back in court. this was from back in june of 2021 when police say ramirez and another gang member opened fire at a group house party. three people were killed, five others were injured. as we approach april and national infertility week, we are learning about how taxing the journey to parenthood can be for some families. >> one east bay couple decided to take their fertility journey overseas. "today in the bay"'s ginger
6:04 am
conejero saab is live for us in san francisco this morning. a great ending here, ginger, because those parents say everything was totally worth it. >> reporter: totally worth it, marcus and kris. you know, for a lot of parents, infertility is a struggle. the world health organization says one out of six adults experience it. that's 17%, over 17% of the adult population. and the journey can be tough to navigate, as well as very costly, especially here in the bay area, which is why one couple decided to take a leap of faith and find their fertility journey overseas. being a mom was something she always envisioned, until it came time to try. >> she saw something in the ultrasound she wasn't expecting to see, and that was some sort of mass that was inside my uterus. >> reporter: fortunately, the mass was benign, but it did mean that jannah's vision of how she would become a mom would change.
6:05 am
>> i just cried and wept because i was bracing myself for the journey that i was about to embark on and what it meant. >> reporter: it meant at least three cycles of in vitro fertilization, which costs around $35,000 a cycle, quickly adding up to over $100,000 for her and her husband, for just a 25% chance of success. >> it's huge. it's unbelievable, the undertaking. >> i remember eli asking me, what are you willing to risk to get there, to take this chance to try to have our kid? and i just told him, i'm willing to risk all of it, like i was willing to sell our house and just try. >> reporter: that's when the couple went to work. they researched, found online support groups, and found an answer overseas at a fraction of the price. dr. skinner is one of jannah's doctors at barbados fertility clinic.
6:06 am
>> going to a foreign country that we frankly didn't know a lot about and medical standards that we were, you know, ignorant of, it was definitely a gamble. >> an independent health care accreditation body comes in as a reassurance, that we go through the same rigorous process of safety and checks that a u.s. hospital goes through. >> i just held on to the idea to stay calm, that maybe my family was going to form, no matter what. >> reporter: and that it did. jannah and eli learned the news they waited over a year to hear, they were going to be parents. >> we got four eggs and he was the egg that made it with a fresh transfer, against all odds. >> reporter: they have named their 2 1/2 year old son lev, meaning lionheart in russian. his middle name, ocean, is a nod to barbados, a place where their family became complete.
6:07 am
>> when you have someone that's had a tough journey and you unravel their history and somehow we come up with the key in the door that makes it successful. >> reporter: now, not every case ends the way that jannah and eli's did, but dr. skinner from barbados fertility center, said when it does, it makes everything really worth it. back to you. >> seeing that family together, certainly it was worth it. thank you, ginger. all right, 6:07 right now. and certainly an opening night like no other for the oakland a's. this is last night's game, underwhelming. the fans, let's just say they all stayed outside, they were preoccupied with what they were doing, and they also say history was made last night. let's talk about the fans first. many fans never made it inside the coliseum, because they were protesting that planned move to vegas. many simply staying in the parking lot with what they
6:08 am
called opening day tailgate boycott. >> the last plea for them to stay and they're having complications with the building in las vegas, the stadium. >> why would i spend my money inside? why would i spend my passion inside if they're trying to leave here. >> and we should probably mention that cleveland dismantled the young a's team, winning an 8-0 shutout. as for the history being made, after the game the headset and other items used by announcer jenny cavnar were sent straight to baseball's hall of fame. she is the first primary play-by-play announcer in mlb history there. certainly a big thing. >> she didn't get a chance to break them in. all right, i'll start with another set. commercial dungeness crab season ending soon in california in order to protect humpback whales. in the winter, whales migrated

south to birth and now they're returning to the coast of california for spring, meaning whales are now at risk of getting tangled up in the traps used by fishermen to catch crab. the state department of fish and wildlife announced the season will end april 8th. it's time to check out your friday forecast. it's going to be windy, as well as some rain coming in. >> a wind advisory will be in effect starting at 11:00 today, mainly for the coast and hills. meteorologist kari hall, how much wind does it take to blow things away? >> as the storm moves in, it will pack a windy punch. let's talk about the impacts we'll see. it doesn't take much for a maple leaf to blow, just 3 miles per hour. you'll want to secure loose items around your home like your trash can. even at 37 pounds, it takes a 28-mile-per-hour gust to knock it over. and those kinds of winds will be
6:10 am
common post those over 900 feet in elevation. gusts up to 69 miles per hour would be possible, which could blow over the average person. we're not expecting winds this high, but just for reference, a car could be moved by 90-mile-per-hour gusts. take a little extra time around the home to just secure those outdoor items before the storm moves in. we'll talk about the timeline of the rain as you make weekend plans coming up. let's check in with mike for where we can fill up for a little bit less. >> we're trying, kari. maybe you're starting in silicon valley. that's where we are right now, $4.39 is the best, scattered around the city and county of santa clara. let's point to sunnyvale's national petroleum on old san francisco road as one in particular. livermore, maybe to the sierra today, the lowest price is $4.42 at valero on old 1st street. at the bottom, if you're getting away to the north bay, you might want to fill up in san rafael,
6:11 am
$4.64 at valero on 3rd street, but higher prices await farther up the freeway. let's look at the roadways. we're talking about traffic, lighter volume, moving smoothly out of the altamont pass. we do have the disabled vehicle, so watch that because there are some nails in the roadway still waiting for the sweeper, west 580 around north flynn road. >> thanks for the heads-up, mike. spring may be starting, but here is a sure sign of summer. >> do you know why we're here? to be out. this is out. out is one of the single most enjoyable experiences of life. >> ahead on "today in the bay," how about a summer night out with one of comedy's all-time legends? some just announced headliners in one popular concert series. there's a new movie that makes fun of silicon valley, pokes aittle lfu
