bridge, not looking bad. you can still see that guy right there. lot of that energy is still built up to our direction. and you can see the center of that circulation. this is your low pressure system right here, sitting well offshore of us. that is going to be hauling through today and dumping with it quite a lot of water. we're seeing most of our rainfall in the north bay. as of right now, marin and sonoma counties. pretty widespread light rainfall at this moment. we'll be increasing for the east bay, south bay and peninsula here in just moments. and the heaviest of rainfall that several hours out. but you are going to start to see that weather impact. winds still relatively calm this morning but will be picking up through the day today. peak winds at the coast and in the mountains could get up to 60 miles per hour. most urban areas, 20 to 30 miles per hour. wind gusts. but we will be feeling it. a lashing of winds, some very heavy rain as well. definitely a stormy day ahead of us right now. it's 40's to 50's on the map. santa rosa among our cooler spots at 45 while berkeley and oakland beach at 50 degrees

later on today, we will be getting to those mid 50's at the very warmest making today a much cooler day than where we have been rain and wind going to be a thing. well, throughout the afternoon and into the evening now we are going to be talking roadways that are more and more wet as the morning goes. but as for right now, not so so bad on the roads. what we're out there at the bay bridge is the maze to fremont street hanging out at 8 minutes. not so bad so far. san mateo bridge at 12 minutes to get you across looking. all right. as for the richmond center fell and the golden gate, a few sprinkles have been seen. but things out there are pretty good for early risers thus far. rania. have of this was an opening day, unlike any other. >> thousands of a's fans packed the oakland coliseum parking lot. what could be the

they plan to get every bit of enjoyment out of whether that means attending the game or boycotting i'm sara stinson reporting in oakland. back to >> well, san francisco police detained 2 people all in connection to a shooting that killed one person right near union square. shooting happened last night around 9.30, in the hollywood. i plaza portion of the bart station right on market street. police say they're trying to figure out what led up to that shooting. we're going follow that story and update you on air and online. we'll take a look at this dash camera footage capturing a bullet shattered the passenger side of the window. vehicle right in the middle the afternoon. this is so scary. this is in hayward, releasing this video of the freeway shooting that happened wednesday on cell of lado. niles road. they say the driver only suffered minor injuries from shattered glass. the shooter was found and arrested. hey, let's talk bart police. they say an increase in officers trolling the

for 2 people suspected of running the place. it was discovered tuesday at a home on shasta daisy drive right next to liberty. high school in brentwood. authorities say the labs being used to make the psychedelic drug dmt. investigators say they also found a possible explosive compound storing containers. authorities arrested jonathan mccarthy, but they are still searching for maxwell. hayworth and daniel coming role. one person died after being shot oakland. that shooting happened around 4 yesterday. this is on avenue not far from the oakland airport. police have not identified the victim just yet. they also did not give us any information, but what might have led up to that shooting or who is responsible? meantime, you have the 4 largest employers in the city of oakland announcing new safety strategy. so blue shield of california. clorox kaiser permanente and pg and e collaborating on a 10 million dollar plan to improve public

safety all while protecting their collective employees. last month, the rising crime forced the company to hire security guards to escort employees to and from bart parking garages and nearby businesses. skyrocketing pg e bills are a problem across the bay area and those high costs are now forcing east bay movie theater to come back. cole. so got so high. the orinda theater now they have to close 2 days a week covers. dan thorn has that story. what it's dark. the theater usually has its iconic marquee lit up and drivers from highway. 24 can see it. but that was not the case. thursday night. >> as one of the cost-cutting measures, the owners of the orinda theater, a taking and now they're also closing the theater on mondays and tuesdays after getting a more than $6,000 energy bill from pg and e. the historic movie theater in orinda is making difficult decisions over ever

increasing energy bills. the orinda theater will no longer have showings on the silver screen on mondays and tuesdays. you know, obviously like to be open 7 days a week, but >> if you know, we can be opened and have lost every day. you theater owner derek xem racks as it was this $6200 charge from pg any that's forcing them to cut back. the bill was 2 grand higher than what they usually see. and it came as a shock may peak the 5,000 dead of winter. >> yeah, never $6,000 in 15 years since i've been doing year in the theater opened in 1941, and place classic films and new releases. its large theater can seat up to 750 people. and during chilly evenings, heat is required to keep the audience comfortable zimmer acts as the enormous jump in utilities is forcing them to not only close the curtains. 2 days a week, but also cut back on powering up their iconic marquee. no shining sign is a disappointing site for locals. the marquee is

you to know warren county coroner identified the man who died after his car caught fire and crashed in a battle on sunday. they say this is bond. he was driving southbound on one sunday morning when his car went off the freeway right near del prado, on-ramp. jury convicted a man on several charges selling pipe bombs, at least chasing francisco to the east bay last year. police say the chase started after the man punched a parishioner at saint peter and paul church.

we do have snowfall on the way today and especially tomorrow if you lingering snow showers into sunday for easter, too. your best travel day up there. that's actually going to be sunday likely monday clears out really nicely. so maybe if you can take that extended weekend head back on monday after a nice day full of skiing under sunshiny skies. you're going to absolutely love this conditions up there where we're sitting right now. no snow just yet for lake tahoe, but we do have some rain arriving to the bay area. it's been very light so far and mostly pretty much situated up in the north bay have seen some misty drizzly conditions elsewhere. but we will be seeing this rainfall, intensity increasing as the morning goes, especially right in the heart of the morning commute will start to see shower activity. picking up for more and more of the bay area she can see late morning those pockets of heavier rainfall. the very heaviest of stuff that arrives in to late morning and early afternoon. here's noon time today. you can see those areas of yellow,

orange in red, which will be working right across the bay 02:45pm, some of our very heaviest rainfall inching on into the bay area making for a situation today. that's going to get very wet, especially for our drive home from work tonight now will continue to hold onto pockets of heavy rain on into the evening and into tomorrow morning as well. now, as far as rainfall totals are concerned, you could be looking at well over an inch today for a whole lot of the bay area. and adding on more on top of that into tomorrow, too. after that, we'll start to see some clearing and drying skies starting easter on on into next week. as far as winds go high wind advisories officially extended into the north bay. all of the coast, san francisco in all of the inland east bay, too, gusts of wind could be as high as 50 to 60 miles per hour for some spots. and really the wind up in this year is going to be the biggest catch to it all today. we're back under a winter storm warning starting at 11:00am with us what you had above to those upper elevations. well, above 5,000

what was left of an rv after it caught fire wednesday night. san leandro. >> fire crews say one person was inside. thankfully they made it out safely. crews say they were able to put out the fire before it spread to a nearby home. the cause is under investigation. and the north bay, a man is dead after a bicycle crash in napa. police say just before 9 o'clock wednesday night, the driver headed down wine country avenue saw the bicycles on the ground. i between on street and in per in her way. police are now investigating if another vehicle was involved or not. for your health. there is a growing concern over a spike in impacts cases. the cdc reporting more than 500 cases in the u.s. this year alone. so there were fewer than 300 cases last year. this time cdc is warning that a new variant of m-pox virus was detected and it is more severe. the virus is spread through personal contact. it has flu-like symptoms followed by

crime that were seen in the city. >> well, as michael thomas is live in oakland to explain how the new partnership will work. good morning, michael. >> hi, good morning, everyone. this 10 million dollar plan essentially is being put together by the 4 major corporations because of the crime that their employees are experiencing, falling victim. well, they're heading to lunch or even to and from work. take a look. we've got video up on your screen so i can break it all down when it comes to the fore. major corporations involved. it's blue shield of california. clorox kaiser permanente in pg and e all pitching in. she split the bill for added public safety. this conversation began earlier this year when crime force the companies to hire private security guards to escort employees to and from bart stations parking garages in nearby businesses alongside heading into work and crime statistics show that robberies are up right now. 34 1% from last year with the majority happening at gunpoint. these new plans will add and complement existing efforts from both mayor sheng thao and

oakland police. according to blue shield's website, the plans include creating an uptown and downtown safe. so that will partner with opd to improve visible and responsive security funding for the oakland uptown downtown community benefits districts. ambassador program, which is a program that allows people to be escorted to and from local downtown destinations by calling or asking ambassadors that are in yellow on the street. lastly, employees wicl get safety training and subsidize transportation to and from work, which includes nearby parking lots and local businesses. we've got a statement up on your screen. this is from mayor sheng thao who put this out recently saying in part, quote, i'm so grateful for the deep partnership of our 4 largest employers and see this as an example of a strong public private partnership. i applaud their engagement as true civic leaders to improve conditions for everyone. i know we will be successful in quickly bringing back quickly bringing safety growth and vibrancy back to our streets. now back

out here like these plans are set to happen within the next few weeks and essentially it's set to go until the end of the year. so as we get more details as to if it does help that crime statistics go down, we'll continue to keep you updated live this morning in downtown oakland, michael thomas renal. send it back to you. all right, michael, thank you for that breakdown for us. >> talk store in oakland. they are suspected of selling cannabis and tobacco products to minors. so they released some of their items that were being sold, including psychedelic mushrooms, marijuana, a variety of thc products and firearms. police say the store they also did not have valid license to sell these items in the first place. did not name the business always and is located on that car. the boulevard just north 35th. did not say whether or not the story was shut down. and this bus comes after police found these items from a smoke shop last month on your screen. it's in the city's seminary neighborhood. it includes a large amount of cannabis crystal meth and flavored tobacco products. they say nobody was arrested.

data shows the number one cause of death for children in california is being hit by a car now, bay area lawmaker would like to make that less likely to happen, especially around schools. well, assemblyman marc berman introduce the safer school zones act in front of camels. eat castleman elementary school yesterday. he says a lower speed limit and establishing want zones could prevent deadly accidents like the one that happened. fun of the school back in 2022. 1, 8, year-old boy died crossing the street as he walked with his baby sister berman is urging voters to back changes he says are already in place in states bordering california. california is one of just 9 states in the country. >> with a school zone speed limit greater than 20 miles per hour with this change will achieve higher compliance with the school zone. speed limit, which is critically important to student safety. >> the bill would also get rid of when children are present language in traffic signs. for

your help. this morning, health officials are warning about an increase in wellbeing cough cases in marin county, especially in teenagers. well, will trez live in valley with what you need to know will good morning. >> rania. i'm in front of pies, high school. it is ground 0 in marin county in terms of hoping cough cases. 65 for whatever reason, this high school seems to be the surge in marin county when it comes to the cases, it is cyclical and then they give you the numbers to prove it. so last year right around this time, they saw 11 cases right now 11. nbc's meet 11 cases last year. right now they're seeing about 113 cases uplifting cough. so you have to be very careful in the reason why, according to health experts, they believe it's very cyclical because about every 3 to 5 years when they see a surge 3 to 5 years ago, we were in the pandemic.

a lot of people were home at the time. of course, people were doing classes by zoom. so they were not in the classrooms. 3 to 5 years later. you fast-forward and all of a sudden we do see the surge of those cases. unfortunately, it is not fatal. among high school kids, but it is fatal for infants 2 months or younger. and the reason being is after miscues, maybe for 2 months, they cannot be vaccinated. so if they come down with whooping cough, they could die from that particular cough. we've got a chance to talk to health experts. here are the symptoms you need to look out for. >> one of the most contagious the infections that can afflict children and adults who has severe parents a coughing to the point just violent productive cop, violent, dry coughing or coughing to the point of nausea. it's very important that they get i identified that that they get in touch with their position that they
