KQED

"KQED is a Public Broadcasting Service-member station in San Francisco, California, broadcasting digitally on UHF channel 30 (Ex-Analog Channel 9). Its transmitter is located on Sutro Tower in San Francisco. It is one of the most-watched PBS stations in the country during primetime.

KQED was organized and created by James Day and Jonathon Rice on June 1, 1953 and first went on air April 5th, 1954. It was the sixth public broadcasting station in the United States. In its early days, KQED only broadcast twice a week for an hour.

Fun fact: The station's call letters, QED, are taken from the Latin phrase, Quod Erat Demonstrandum, meaning “that which was to be proved,” commonly used in mathematics."
